Jerry Ravnitzky | Instead of welcoming public input and embracing the democratic tradition of openness in government, the Carmel Town Board fears participation by residents and operates as a dictatorship. The town board must be made to recognize that they do not OWN the town government, but that they are elected to serve the public.
Ann Fanizzi | Our men and women have fought and died against regimes that have sought to abolish fundamental rights. We dishonor them and their memory when we do not stand and protest public officials efforts to deny us those rights.

Andrew Campbell | Though the the Town Board is elected by the people to make specific decisions constituting the management of town affairs, it should provide for the full and complete participation of the citizens in governance.

Christopher Jones | As elected officials you should welcome resident comment. After all we are responsible for your election into the position and you have a duty to hear what we have to say. It's terribly disappointing that again a new Supervisor would be so influenced by developers and not by the residents who actually live here.

Theresa West | As our elected officials, you must honor the right for freedom of speech that this country was founded on. Anthing less would be an insult to our forefathers who created the constitution for this nation and all who have died to preserve this right.

Kathie Franco | It is amazing to me how elected officials can try and silence those who ELECTED them. Last time I looked this was America and citizens, as well as developers, had the right to express their opinions on issues that will affect their quality of life. What a way for the supervisor to start his term in office...
Marion G. Lyke | This is the United States of America, the home of the free and the brave. Each of us have the right to express our opinion without a time limit.

Martin Greenberg | All is fair in love and war, but you are elected officials and we put you in your positions. You have a duty to act in our interests and operate our government with transparency. If you cannot abide by these terms, you do not belong in office serving the people of Carmel, NY.
Peter Tenzer | This is truly outrageous. Although there probably are people who repeat themselves or do take up some unnecessary time, who do thesre councilmen think they are denying free speech.
Richard Greenberg | Please do not censor the residents of our community.

Noel J. Holland | Having spent more than 20 years in the Navy, defending as best I could our Constitutionally guaranteed principles -- including, in particular, the right of free speech -- I am disgusted to find that petty tyranny is being practiced right here in the heart of what has always been a free society. Shame!

Judy Ravnitzky | What is there that separates the governments of China and the Town of Camel? This is a moment for the residents of Carmel to stand up and be counted.
Gerard Ahler | there should be term limits and people should be able to speek out
Gerard Furey | I ran for office that covers part of Carmel. I said it before and will again: Unless and until this town comes to grips with the people instead of special interests we are doomed.

John A. Babich | Having owned a home in Carmel for 15+ years I have been to many Town meetings and seen a lot. Our Town and County have changed radically in that time and I can only wonder at what real old timers feel like. It seems that those who govern this Town and County will never get it right. They are doing so many things exactly the WRONG way.Limiting free speech is an outrage. Unbridled shoddy development continues. The recycling center is closed. Public transportation is a joke.Tthe schools are mediocre. Do Putnam and Carmel always have to be 50 years behind the times in progressive action?
Joyce Mitchell | I write as a friend of free speech and as a resident of Putnam County.
Ken Harper | Government works best when the people have free and open access to all proceedings and the ability to have their opinions heard.
| 45 | Janusz Jurek | Dear Mr.Schmitt ,
Do you want to run our town without listening what people living here have to say . I think it's pretty bad start of your term !!!! |
