Carlton is no longer the powerhouse it once was, but the current Carlton Board, elected in 2002, are trying their hardest to turn the club around.
Recently it was recommended by the Carlton Board that to secure the financial future for the club, a move away from the beloved Optus Oval to a Telstra Dome / MCG combination. It is advised that a much needed cash injection would be received, as well as other benefits, including improved facilities for both players and supporters alike.
A rebel group of Carlton Supporters have threatened to destabilise the current Carlton Board, due to their wish to remain at Optus Oval.
It is reported that they have collected 300 signatures in support of their motives, and will force an EGM if they feel it is required.
Nobody could deny or forget the memories on Royal Parade. Optus Oval was once a fortress for the Navy Blue, and it certainly played its part in forming what is the most successful AFL club in the land.
However, I also believe the current Carlton Board was elected to make the best decisions for the club, both on and off the field.
I can not understand why anybody would want to try and destabilise a board which is trying so hard to stop Carlton becoming the next Fitzroy.
Therefore, in response to the rebel faction, I would like to gain a minimum 301 signatures in full support and confidence of the current Carlton Board.
It is hoped that upon reaching a minimum of 301 signatures, this petition can be used as support to convince the rebel faction to see that what they are doing will only hurt the club.
I am not a rocket scientist. I hold no phD's. I am not a CEO of any company. I am not a member of any political party. I don't even own my own house right now.
What I am, though, is passionate about everything Carlton, and I would hate to see the club fall to it's knees again. |
