Name: Paul Embery on Apr 4, 2011Comments: There is so much local history here. It would be a shame to see the proposed name change and change in character go through, especially as the beer and the welcome are generally so good. I blame the secularists!Flag

Name: Eileen Cole on Apr 4, 2011Comments: Please don't change the name or character of the pub!!! We really appreciate the singularity of it - it is original and unusual - don't lose that specific difference! It is important for the many Catholics who worship at the Cathedral and is a landmark place to meet - I have taken many visitors to London there. Please acknowledge your history and roots. Thank you for listening!Flag

Name: Val Gould on Apr 4, 2011Comments: I will admit never to being in the pub, but for the locals and those who have frequented it for many years, I feel it would be sad for the name to change. Being next to the Cathedral it is a very fitting name for the pub and hope the owners take this into consideration.Flag

Name: Dr. Gemma Simmonds on Apr 4, 2011Comments: The change of name would be a major loss of the local heritage of this part of London, not only to Catholics but to all who have an interest in the particular history of local communities. Cardinal Manning was a great hero to working class Londoners and deserves to have his memory preserved.Flag

Name: Nick Layton on Apr 4, 2011Comments: Frequently we would take groups of 20 or 30 into the pub after events at Westminster Cathedral or meetings in the area. Part of the appeal was the name and a feeling that this was the Cathedral's "local" despite number of pubs in the area that are also on the way back to the station. The pub is usually full at the times of day when all the other pubs in Victoria are full. The trick is filling them at other times. Usually, if I went in with a group it would be on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon - when it is normally quite quiet. Or if we went after a meeting it would be during the day on a weekday. Despite the fact I don't live in London now, I led a group of around 10 people to the Cardinal only a couple of weeks ago to find it was shut. Despite the fact that we were all heading to the station from one of the other Catholic organisations on the other side of the Cathedrak, we went out of our way because it seemed like the obvious place to go and we had arranged to meet other people there after our meeting. There are so many Catholic charities, organisations and companies all in such a small area that whenever you arrange to meet anyone in Victoria that is the place to go. It would be a shame to loose that connection.Flag
