For many years the pub has been popular with parishioners and groups attending events at Westminster Cathedral. An average of 5,000 people attend Mass at the Cathedral each week, and the pub is surrounded by offices used by the Catholic Church every day. I do understand that you want to revert to the original name of the pub. But might I remind you that this rather ordinary name (there are over 4,000 in the country) was given to the pub before...
Yesterday we had a photocall outside the Cardinal to mark our thousandth signature (including on paper & on line signatures. In fact we have got more than that now as we attracted a bit of a crowd with Cardinal Chambers there and about 40 people asked to sign.
Numbers of signatures are going up each day. We have gone over 600,now. We are getting more and more phone calls too. The company lawyers haven't got back to us yet.
Archbishop Vincent Nichols spoke on the BBC this morning to defend the Cardinal. He will be interviewed on London Tonight tomorrow evening.ITV also would like to interview people who have signed this petition, at a pub in Pimlico tomorrow at 12.30. If you can make it it please e-mail Jo at jsiedlecka@gmail.com for details.
Since we set up the petition we have had a considerable amount of interest here at ICN, and more than 150 people have signed. I have called the company solicitors twice, and they have promised to call back - but so far they haven't.I do hope the pub owners realise how much people care about the Cardinal and change their minds.Jo SiedleckaICN www.indcatholicnews.com
