Comments: Bought my 7D in September 2009 the day they were available in Canada. Had trouble with AF against static subjects in various lighting conditions, and after about 6 months sent the camera to Canon Canada. It came back with "electrical adjustments to the AF system". Problem remained. Provided further images and sent camera back again, Canon stated they performed further electrical adjustments as the initial adjustments were incorrect. I had thought the issue was better, but after months of non-use when I finally tested again, the problem still remained. I came across some posts stating the AF sensor points could be misaligned from what was shown in the viewfinder, and I found that this was my case, so thought that might have been root cause. Sent the camera in again, this time outside of the warranty because more than a year had passed, and after much discussion and insisting, Canon replaced the AF assembly. The VF AF points were now properly aligned, however, the front-focus issues still persisted. I continued to not use the camera because the AF was not consistent or accurate enough for professional work. I eventually decided that I needed to dump the camera, but could not sell it with the problems it had, so resolved to spend whatever time was required to pester Canon Canada to address the issues. I appealed to the Director of the Customer Information Center and Customer Service Center for help, and he redirected me to Canon Canada's 7D product specialist. This resulted in another trip back to service, and more electrical adjustments, after which two technicians attempted to verify proper real-world operation of the camera. When I got the camera back, the problem still persisted. And, I'd found a target which caused the problem to happen consistently, regardless of lens, but only at distances greater than about 10 feet. Canon still refused to admit that there was any problem, but did arrange to have me test another 7D from the CPS loaner pool. When I tested that one, both against the problematic subject and also did a real-world shoot of about 300 images, I noticed an absolutely definite improvement. Images like I'd never seen from a 7D before. Sharp, in focus, at various distances, and with various lenses. With this information in hand, I went back to Canon and showed them the results. They stated that this wasn't sufficient evidence to suggest there was a problem with my 7D body, and that they had had no problem with my original body and their 50mm 1.2 lens, so they'd like me to test my original body with their 50mm. I did that, and the problem remained. At this point, there was overwhelming evidence that there was a problem with my body. Four times to service and they couldn't identify a problem or resolve it. Because of the value of the Canon equipment I own, plus my status as a CPS member, Canon agreed to arrange an exchange, but because of the age of my camera, would only exchange with a loaner from the CPS pool. Even this was a fight. They insisted that they could do an exchange, but not waive the service fee for the fourth visit to service. When I insisted, and they continued to refuse, I suggested that they indefinitely loan me a 7D that works, and keep mine for as long as it takes to fix it. They immediately agreed to waive the service fee. They claim they identified the "newest" "lowest shutter count" 7D from the loaner pool and would put it aside for me for exchange. I went to pick it up, and noted that it was more worn than the loaner I'd shot the test images with. I walked to the parking lot, and tested this new loaner against similar problematic subjects. I shot 13 frames, and 6 were significantly out of focus. The product specialist said it was unfair to judge the camera after only 13 frames, and that it was still to his eye operating better than my original. He also suggested that the softness I was seeing was a result of shooting wide open. He then suggested that I had too high an expectation of an AF system and that both the loaner I had just tested and my original could potentially be fine for other users depending on how they use the cameras. In the end, they agreed to let me keep the first loaner they'd let me test with. I've tried to express my concerns to the Director, who has had no explanation for the length of the process or waste of time and just continues to let his product specialist handle the case. I've tried to send a message to the president of Canon Canada, and the web form, believe it or not, sent the email to the same product specialist whom I had been dealing with.

Comments: I have an intermittent focusing issue with my 7D.. Some shots are pin-sharp, whereas other shots look like there was nothing focused on at all.. The other problem that I am having is that the focus point that is displayed on the LCD screen is actually shifted to the right of the ACTUAL focus point on the camera, also resulting in shots that are out of focus..

Comments: I had sent my 7D body in a total of 4 times before a refurbished unit was provided as a replacement. The last tech I spoke with said there was an option to do a 'full board wipe/re-load' stating that they had success in solving the issue in doing that. I instead wanted the refurbished unit, but that nugget of info helps build a good understanding that Canon knows this is an issue...my opinion of course.

Comments: If anything, I think Canon has been dishonest on the number of actual focus spots, some of them seem to be sharing data between each other, causing a larger AF spot than one expects and led to believe in the manual. I still cannot be sure that the fact above (proven by several people on line, myself included) is what others are seeing by having a low contrast subject and a high contrast background in the same Acausingng apparent errors, or if there are actual point of focus issues with these cameras. From the evidence I've seen where all are of the images are out of focus, it would lead me to believe that there are issues with point of focus in some camera bodies.

Comments: This is my second 7D, the first one was returned to B+H after 2 weeks. They sent out a second new body, this one was better, had soft focus and high iso noise at 100 iso. Sent Canon the body, next day air plus insurance(150.00). It's better now they cleaned it, said it had dust on the sensor, only 2 weeks old. They adjusted the focus, and said to send in the body and lens next time. I had supplied them with files on a CD. So they know I have four L lenses, how much will that cost to send, with insurance? Now the body sometimes will confirm focus although I can see it's soft. I manually focus then half press the shutter and it softens again. I have a 60D thast cost almost half and is sharp as a tack, just don't have the focus feature of the 7D. If I could get a breakdown I would swap the 60D sensor into the 7D

Comments: This is the second 7D that I've had, it was a refurbished camera that Canon sent me to replace my original Camera, this one also has the out of focus or soft focus that a lot of the 7D's have, it had been to Canon twice to get fixed, when they couldn't fix it they kept it and sent me another 7D that has the same issues.

Comments: This is the third and final 7D that I have had, it also suffers with the soft or out of focus problems the 7D is known for. This camera also had problems with high or not so high ISO noise anything above 400 was terrible it also had a loose lens mount. This camera was sent in twice for servicing and has been at Canon since March 24 2011.

Comments: I bought the 7D as a present for my wife! She normally uses a £20 Camera bought off of Ebay. (Olympus 100) These 100's have been around for 10 years but she gets a far better result with this than she can with the 7D. The 7D camera is not fit for purpose which is illegal in the (UK). I have been conned, and quite a few others I suspect! No doubt I'll be back.

Comments: I have had the standard (for 7D) out of focus issues with this camera; it was also in for metering issues and high ISO noise issues. it has been to Canon for service 5 times, I finally had Canon replace this camera with another remanufactured 7D that had the same issues and was in for servicing twice before I had them replace it with a new camera which had the same issues they have had that camera at their service center since March 24 2011, right now I don't have a 7D in my possession, I want my money back for this worthless camera!

Comments: I bought my 7D on March 25, 2010, after months of checking the reviews, taking the time to buy a camera suited for my needs after being very satisfied with a 40D. I mostly shoot at horseshows, but alos do landscapes and other animals. A month or so after I had it, I noticed that my pictures were soft, although sometimes tack sharp. As time goes by, the softness became a blur and I contacted Canon and sent my 7D back for repair in June 2010. They made some adjustments but nothing was replaced. Got it back 4 weeks after that. Went fine for 2 weeks, then, the problem reapeared, worse that before. Pictures looked like I did a surface blur in Photoshop!!! Shooting someone who wasn't moving became a challenge! I then again, contacted Canon... Had the camera replaced for a new one on August 4, 2010. This one is better but I cannot say I am satisfied with this body... Not consistent enough. I noticed that the soft images were more consistent at higher shutter speed... Weird. The serial number I am providing is the new 7D... Can't find the SN of the first 7D I had. A friend of mine had focus issues with two Mark IV... so I don't think I will stay with Canon if troubles like that persist. What I hated the most was when I was told nobody else had this kind of trouble with the 7D... Yeah, right! I was lucky they changed it for a new one... I guess... or am I?

Comments: I've sent my camera back to Canon, who said they 'fixed the issue' but it is still acting up. I notice it the most when I use the spot focus, which is my preferred method of shooting. I can focus on the face of the subject, then upload the images to the computer, and the focus may be on the hand. This happens at apertures 1.2-3.2. My warrenty expired last month, and I hate that I'm stuck with it now.

The 2nd, most of the images are out of focus! I am beyond frustrated and angry. This has cost me money in shipping and, worst of all, has caused me to reschedule photo sessions and give clients sub par photography work. I wish I had never bought this camera!

Comments: OOF, soft images and poor colour. Have sent the body together with two Canon lenese to the Sydney Australia service centre at my cost. Within warranty. 3 weeks down track and Canon say they have "calibrated" the camera, upgraded the firmware and cleaned it. Received a phone call from a staff member who said post service correction shots look "pretty sharp. Take a few shots and see what you think." Maybe use a faster shutter speed (???? what other than what I've exposed for?). Frightened I've got a lemon on my hands.

I decided to use my dependable 1d mrk1 but battery life is poor, as we all know, so frustrated again, now december 2010, i bought #2 7d and gave it another try. I gave #1 to my wife. well its august 2011 and still getting alot of out of focus flying bird shots with both 7d's. I'm waiting for a fix to come out before sending any camera back even though I'm a CPS MEMBER. So for now I bought 3 new batteries and am using old reliable 1d mrk1 (4 meg). Canon please fix this issue, I have too much invested in L glass to switch over to the black lens system, NIKON.

Comments: I have been trying to get a refund for my 7D since march this year, I bought it from a camera shop in Cardiff South Wales. It suffers from all problems that have been discussed here. You may find that the only way you will get a chance of a usable image is to be right close to a subject and use flash, this may be the reason that canon technicians are saying the camera works as thats probably how (i guess) they test it, on a tripod using flash. My 7D is absolutly usless in normal daylight conditions! No matter what ISO, fast shutter speeds and plenty of depth of field It will not take a sharp photograph and the image quality is p#ss poor! There is no way an online stock agency would accept the images this camera produces and I can forget trying to get a critical focus shot with a wide apperture and shallow depth as this camera is no where near accurate or consistant enough, like others have said before me they can get better shots with a point and shoot camera. My iphone has a rubbish camera but at least I know they are consisntantly rubbish!… Saying that my 7D is consistantly rubbish too but with the very rare exception of a sharp shot but even then no greater than what my 20D can achieve or my 10D’s for that matter! I bought this camera to start covering weddings as I was doing pretty well as a portrait photographer and wanted to up my game but there is no way I would rely on this camera, its pretty shocking. It has been in for service three times now and each time came back with the usual “Adjustment: AF-System” and each time was extremely disapionted with the results. I cant understand how they keep sending me back a camera that produces such poor images! Do these technicians know what they are doing? Do they know a bad image from a good one? And if they say there is nothing wrong with the camera then why do they need to adjust it every time?!?! *WARNING* The third time I sent it in I was asked to include a couple of lenses to calibrate the camera to, I was out of options and a bit reluctant to do so but also at my wits end from testing this camera and not getting any good results so I sent a couple in…. Got it back and the problems still pursisted but now my worst fears came true when my 70-300mmIS came back ruined!! Not only on the 7D but also on my other cameras! I should have known that they would balls it up because how could they calibrate a lens to a camera that is flawed? This was one of my favourite lenses, it was an absolute gem, tack sharp and accurate but now is extremely soft, back focuses and suffers terrible chromatic abboration! The other lens came back with no apparent change in its performance, always sharp on my 20D and two 10D’s. I informed Canon about this direct as I didnt seem to be getting anywhere with the retailer and after numerous emails and phone calls Canon to my supprise said that they were sorry for the inconveniance and if they couldnt help me any further then I should get the retailer to contact their Canon sales rep who can autherise a refund. I hope this is true as im still in talks with the retailer and arranging a date to meet with the rep. In all, this whole episode has taken its toll on me and im sure there are a lot of people on here who are in the same boat, I have spent a hell of a lot more time testing this camera than actually using it and it has taken every ounce of joy out of photography for me. It’s not only put my career on hold but also robbed me of my hobbie and my way of getting away from it all! Its a worry I could do without right now after just rescently losing my brother and my father, my father being a retired professional photographer before me he seen that this camera was not quite right from the outset but I put it down to user error at first thinking how could the camera be at fault as its meant to be one of the greatest according to reviews and the hype i’m just “gona have to tame the beast” and learn to use it but after WRONGLY doubting my abbilities i saw sence that there are definitely lemons out there!! Good luck to you all. (sorry this was so long just needed to get it off my cheast)

Got back in same condition as before service with no explanation or support from Canon exept that focus was adjusted. For now the only one workaround which I found is use manual focus all the time.
