We wish for China to grow so the Olympics must go on, but this is the time for the world to be loud in their statements of justice!
TIBET: 100,000 Tibetans have been killed since the “liberation” of Tibet in 1949 – China continues to unjustly occupy their country for benefit of resources, toxic waste sites and military high ground over Asia. They refuse to consider ways to recognize Tibetans. There is no compromise. Even possessing a picture of the Nobel peace Laureate the Dalai Lama has severe punishment
FALUN GONG: or ‘Falun Dafa’, a modern spiritual practice having had over 70 million Chinese followers, was labeled a cult by the Beijing Government, in 1999. China’s government since mounted a large-scale persecution, including regular torture, illegal imprisonment, forced labour, and psychiatric abuses to ensure the security of their authoritative power. Falun Gong practitioners comprise approximately 66% of all reported torture cases in China and at least half of the labour camp population.
DARFUR: The Chinese Government for benefits of future oil security has been selling arms to the Government of Sudan. The Darfur region remains plagued with warfare. UN officials estimate that fighting has lead to displacement of over 2 million into drought stricken areas and have caused between 200,000 and 400,000 casualties.
THESE SIMPLE EFFORTS WITHIN OUR PEACEFUL LIVES IN CANADA, CAN WE MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
BOYCOTT THE OPENING CEREMONIES BEIJING 2008
Attention Canadian Parliament and the Canadian Olympic Committee:
1. With knowledge of major human rights violations by the Chinese Government, specifically in the Tibet region, the Sundanese Darfur Region, and to the practitioners of Falun Gong (along with many more), we strongly urge you to recognize these issues by making a statement of non-acceptance by our Olympic team not attending the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
2. We encourage the attendance of our Canadian Olympic Team at the event portion of the 2008 Beijing Olympics for their determined efforts to represent Canada’s athleticism, and to encourage prosperity and change for the good public of a growing China. Furthermore, we wish for Canada to be represented to show the government of China, by example, how to care about the rights our own people and the people throughout the world.
We, the undersigned, call for immediate action for our Canadian Olympic Team to boycott the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics:
