Name: Jim Walker on Dec 5, 2008Comments: I have seen this conflict happen before and at the end all knows that leaving the camp benifits the boys in this area. I feel that this ongoing battle is about how much we can get for the leaders and the council and we for get about the true meaning of scouting. It is to help raise and maintain good leadership. How can we maintain that cause if none of the boys can travel half way across the state, With cost increasing I can understand the cuts but we need to make sure that we cut from the top and anot allow our youth to suffer.Flag

Name: Kathy Fortney on Dec 5, 2008Comments: This matter needs to be looked at in depth before the decision is made to close a good camp that is rich in history. Please consider both sides, look to cut other areas before you deny the boys of this area the unique camping experience they get only at Wapello.Flag

Name: Donna Reineke on Dec 5, 2008Comments: Please visit Camp Wapello and the scouts and scouters and hear what they have to say. If the council can afford to lose the scouts in southeast Iowa then canceling summer camp at Camp Wapello is a good way to do it.Flag

Name: Barbara J. Voshell on Dec 6, 2008Comments: To the Mid-Iowa Council== I understand the financial demands placed on an organization by youth camps. I attended, worked, and volunteered for Camp Hantesa near Boone. But, local camps are intrinsic to local youth programming throughout the year. If the need for personnel is a substantial part of your decision, I would hope you would reach out to past campers, and other community members. Last summer our hemophilia camp in the KC area needed counselours. We received more requests from adults to help than we had campers attending. Have you considered harvesting the untapped adults around you as volunteer staff, or even an adult campers unit program. Our society, and its citizens, cry out for programs that reintegrate our adults with the volunteerism that enriched their youth. I do not have home access to e-mail, but if I can be of any assisstance to your programming process in an effort to save your camp, or others, please feel free to contant me at my home: 216 W. Valley, St. Joseph, MO 64504 816-238-4660 In 1996, The Heart of the Hawkeye Council or Camp Fire Boys and Girls awarded me with the Miss Genilee Award, which recognizes life-time achievement in the are of adult and youth programming, so I feel that I have the evxperience that may be used by you effectively. Thank you for listening. Good luck in your endeavors. Sincerely, Barbara J VoshellFlag

Name: Melissa Riley on Dec 8, 2008Comments: Mid-Iowa council needs to reconsider their decision. What they are doing is not characteristic to what scouts is suppose to be teaching our sons. OUr sons have been taught to work together to find solutions to problems. What is the Mid-Iowa council trying to teach How to give up or how to push their weight around to get what they wantFlag

Name: David , Diane Wright on Dec 8, 2008Comments: My family has been in scouting about 24 years has 5 eagles scouts . Most of our times has been at Camp Wapello and has really enjoyed it for years. It would be a great lost to everyone that still in scouts that they would not get the chance to do what everyone has done. It has tought the scouts many wonderful things that they will never forget. It a great place and we are with everyone that is fighting for the camp to stay open. You have our support in this petition to keep this camp open.Flag

I still talk to a handful of scouts. I think it would be a complete shame to let camp wapello become history.Flag

Name: Rev. Joseph Phipps on Dec 9, 2008Comments: As an Eagle Scout of more than 30 years and as a father of a relatively new scout, I am concerned about the closing of cessation of use by the Boy Scouts of Camp Wapello. I am even more concerned by the questionable methods used in making the decisionFlag
