CA State Senator Fran Pavley has introduced Senate Bill 435 which will require Smog Checks for all motorcycles year 2000 or newer! The bill will be heard in about a month (4/09), so please sign the petition here that will be forwarded to Sen. Fran Pavley and to the Senate Transportation Committee, opposing SB435. A few simple facts that this law will ignore: * Motorcycles and scooters comprise only 3.6 percent of registered vehicles in California and 1 percent of vehicle miles traveled. * Non-compliant Chinese all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes and scooters are shipped into California to the approximate count of 20,000 units each month. Many of them with emissions that are at least 10 times higher than the state requirements. * Larger issues such as diesel trucks, construction equipment and non-emissions-compliant products from China need be addressed far prior to the 1% of motorcycle & scooter traveled miles. * Most all 2008+ road-going motorcycles sold in California already meet or exceed the EPA standard for 2010.
