paul toumayan | A very serious bad precedent for free and fair public riverine access everywhere. How can a city council hand over sole river bank rights and access to a single company? One wonders how many Euros must be transferring from Scudamores to the Council's pockets to enable this sad law to pass. Do not allow the predatory, monopolistic practices to continue. Have you not read the news lately? The EU is fining Microsoft billions for similar practices. Please continue to maintain and support free and open access for tourists, visitors, residents alike. I love visiting cambridge. It would be a shame to lose low-cost free-market punting to shady back-alley deals between scudamores and the council. The fact that Scudamores is spending so much money on Lawyers should show the council what their real, selfish, monoplistic, money grubbing intentions are.

William Moses | We have used independent punts in Cambridge many times and are pleased with their service and prices. It would be a shame to restrict the river to a monopoly for the benefit of a few.

Nick Maseychik | What exactly is a Liberal Democrat ? Is it someone who facilitates the consolidation of wealth into the hands of one silver spoon baby while reducing generations of local workers to minimum wage slaves at Scudamores ?
Yvonne Prevett | Totally undomocratic

Joyce Grimes | Lack of competition can only ever be a bad thing whatever the context.
Paul Muscutt | A monopoly would be totally unfair and the price of punting inevitably would go up.

| 675 | Frank Haxton | I an a supporter of free market forces. I do not agree with council interference in the local economy and particularly not to supress compertitoion as in the proposal to create a virtual
monopoly in the provision of punts on the cam. |
Alison Cope | The lack of business choice the proposal will promote is highly undemocratic in a society that is supposed to encourage local business and freedom of choice. There has got to be a better way to deal with the concerns of the situation.

Bridget Everitt | Allow independant punts on the river cam. It is better for the tourists and the locals
katy bailey | if scudamores take over the Cam there will be no free healthy competition and we will be at the mercy of one greedy coming who will dictate all. We have a punt , we want to keep it on the water as it was intended without running the risk of it being sabotaged by above named in a spurious attempt to prevent us using it,
Mae Kember | What happened to fair trade; I thought we were living in a democratic country.
Penny Nicoll | Punting as it stands is part of the Cambridge tradition and MUST stay that way
Jennifer Kelly |
| 684 | David M.J BALL | It is imperative that real competition remains to keep prices down and improve efficiency as well as giving the public choice.
It is also vital to the community that employment levels are maintained. |
Charlie Lyon |
Melanie Owers | I thoroughly support the independent punt operators - they deserve their own space in the punting market place. The comparison is between all food shops being supermarkets, with no independent food retailers being allowed to trade!
richard ball | keep punting competitive! monopolies are not good for the public service.
Anonymous | Monopolies can NEVER be a good thing for tourism or democracy. PLEASE think again
Heyman | As someone who every year take groups of overseas friends punting, and fear a monopoly would lead to huge charges.

Joanne Halliday | Having enjoyed several trips along the river cam I fully support the comtinuation of independent operators as I have found much them to be more helpful and knowledgeable. I have never experienced any agressive touting by the independents.

Jo Ball | Disgusting. Abhorrent. Unfair. Unjust. Immoral. Disappointing. The nature of the River and punting will be unrecognisable, and not in a good way if it all belongs to one company. There will be no character, no choice, minimum wages paid to monkeys. The council could not make a worse decision than to close the river to independents. The people who run Scudamores are the worse kind of bullies and Cambridge visitors and locals will suffer at their hands thanks to the Council who are afraid to take a stand.
