| 602 | Katie | I come from Cambridge originally, and I loved going for a punt trip along the Backs. Won't bother visiting any more if it's going all corporate! |

| 611 | Prudence Fiddy | To whom it may concern:
Punting is an extremely important part of Cambridge's culture. The independent operators are people who are part of the community and can offer a comprehensive guide to the history of the city. They also allow passengers to take their time and enjoy the river, rather than a 'shove them in shove them out' attitude that often stems from greedy companes such as Scudamore's. After all this is not an Indian restaurant on Brick Lane where people are constantly harrased to eat at their restaurant. This should be operated as a professional tourist attraction. It is also not dissimlar to the wave of big supermarkets that have taken over the independant stores and thus threatening what is an essential part of the community.
I therefore truly believe independant punt operators should be allowed on the river cam and that both the punt operators and the public are treated fairly in this matter.
Your Sincerely
Prudence Fiddy |

| 613 | Anonymous | Back in 1992 punting was how it was intended to be - a pleasant and relaxing experience. There were several independent punt companies who were all friends, who socialised with one another and who helped each other out when help was needed - broken punt poles, difficult customers, even just change for a tenner . Then in 1996, Scudamores decided to employ a manager to be in charge of their chauffeurs, who thought nothing of undercutting others and to be honest, punting has been slowly in decline ever since. |

| 616 | Shelley Nania | This situation is reflective of what is happening the world over where large companies are being supported by agencies to monopolise. Cambridge City Council needs to take a stance to stop this happening in our city |
| 617 | Charlie Crick-collins | I love to punt |
| 618 | Amy Wade | I'm not a resident of Cambridge. I have only visited once. A punt on the river Cam really made my trip. The fact that it was an independent operator made it all the more authentic and unique. Please don't homogenize the river and the experience!! |

| 620 | mark | Like most Councils and organisations (punt companies), I hope they have looked at Monopolies, and whether the removal - in part or whole, has legal standing. It would appear that they are walking into an error, which will cost dearly in court, and demonstrate again how Cambridge operates - to control; to be judge and jury, and to ignore democracy, and the rights of others to trade. Taking away even the Quayside, will eventually lead to greater tensions, as it is already known that those Punt companies believe they own, the Bridge, the water and anyone else's need for peaceful enjoyment of their occupation, even for the walking public. I hope that they see reason, and if they think what they are doing is reasonable - in Law, then that is extremely debatable. They are doing what they are doing by the back door so they can gloat, knowing rightly that they would fail in any legal debate and moot if it were open to the public and Independents to have their community say.. |

| 624 | Cerridwen | I hear that Scudamore's is going to be responsible for choosing who gets the independents places on the Council pontoon! If this is true, it is NOT right!
'Hey guys, you get to choose your competition' -what? What a bloody farce! |

| 627 | Margaret Talibudeen | I have always found the independant touters pleasant and polite and I am often in the area in which they function. I cannot see how it is posible these days to have all competition removed legally. It will be a real loss to Cambridge if they are forced to go. |
| 628 | Aimee Thornton | I met Olley on the punts and he is a genius freelance punter and I, now, would never go with scudamores. |

| 633 | Ben Cassels | the income from tourists' punt tours is a rich resource, which we are very fortunate to have, and it is not fair that one company should have the lion's share, when so many people in the city are so proud of its heritage. |

| 635 | J R Rea | It is vitally important to keep traditional attractions going. It is the independent operator who will do this not large companies. |
| 636 | Anonymous | Tescos tours anyone. That'll be £35 a head, just press the button and don the headphones to hear your tour. Enjoy. |
| 637 | Meredith Toumayan | Hello City of Cambridge! I lived in Cambridge for many years, and continue to vacation there. I would hate to see the prices of punting driven even higher by no competition, AND, are you going to let Scudamores be the next Microsoft, global commercial domination coming up!!!???? |
| 638 | Sophie Bell | I believe that there should be variation on the river in Cambridge, I have lived there all my life and have enjoyed many trips on punts - not all of these have been with Scudamores and I believe that is the way it should be. Why should only ONE business run a monopoly on punting on the river cam? It is just not on... |

| 643 | Andrew Gillham | This is another Cambridge Council Maffia thing, like the dodgy dealings with stagecoach over the guided bus routes, and ripping up of the track way before work commences so that the rail protest groups are silenced. This sort of behaviour by the council is immoral. |
