The funding has been officially approved and I am honestly speechless. This change came about because you chose to speak up for these children when it mattered most. Please keep watching to ensure these resources reach the families who need them the most.

The Irish Government needs to recognise that there is an immediate need for funding to be made available to all preschool children who have additional needs. Those of us working with preschool children in today's Ireland want to do our best for the children in our daily care. It is time to stop waiting for someone else to make the first move.

Please sign this petition, which is calling on the Government to support those children with additional needs (aged up to five years attending creche or preschool in Ireland) by providing extra funds through the Department of Education.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the momentum behind this because I never imagined so many people would care about these children. You all are the ones driving this forward and I am just so grateful to be part of the community you have built here.

It is imperative that funding to Early Years be significantly increased to enable Practitioners resource and support children in their care with all needs individually. In the best interests of Equality and Diversity, every child has the right to access supports necessary for them to fulfill their individual potential.

The HSE pays 8.65 an hour for special needs assistants. This needs to be increased. Children with additional needs need a sna with specialised skills to support and encourage their development. The sna neds to have a high level of knowledge and skill. 8.65 is not enough to employ a practitioner of this standard.

improving quality in childcare cannot happen if practitioners are not at least listened to. we must advocate for children and ensure our voices are heard so that their needs can be met- it is their right.

Thank you for taking the time to highlight this most crucial issue. We need to move beyond the physical inclusion of children in mainstream early childhood services. Supports are urgently required to enable the full inclusion of children with special educational needs to enable them to participate in pre-school education on an equal level to their peers.

Supports are urgently needed on a similar basis to support children from birth that need specialist supports. This model should provide for all tranisitions and should have at its core value the specific needs of the individual child.

Why are children's special needs only recognised once they go into the primary school system?
