As a member of the public watching the lunchtime news and the sight of a wealthy businessman getting a short amount of time in jail in favour of a hefty fine. It seems to send out the message that if you are a person of means then your cash can keep you out of any lengthy jail time. Surely this case warranted a lengthy time in prison. The man attempted to blame medication for his disgraceful behaviour this was rejected by the jury. What kind of message does this sentence send out to the public? Will the public lose there confidence in the judiciary with Sentences such as this favouring the wealthy?. Should they? cases like this will prevent future victims from reporting future attack's to the Gardai. As an Irish citizen, I request the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to review this case. I also request the DPP to also review this case and revoke this sentence.
