The shipping channels in California are one of the most important places in the country where we receive some out very important exports from other countries. However a new problem has risen. The shipping channels in Southern California have pose a threat to blue whales. Many of the shipping channels are prime feeding places for blue whales and when the blue whales are feeding they are struck by the ship and killed almost instantly. Within the last couple of years six blue whales have been found dead on the shores of Ventura and Santa Barbara when scientists would normally find only one or two every two or three years. After a necropsy were done it was found that four of the six dead whales were killed after being struck by a large moving object. It has become apparent that bluw whales are now facing a new threat, something must be done about this now because the blue whale populations in California are the largest in the world and must be sustained. It has been calculated that if there was an enforced speed limit of 10 nautical miles (11mph) then that would be slow enough for blue whales to not be fatally injured by the ship. If you sign this petition then you are saying that you would like there to be a speed limit in the California shipping lanes. Please help ensure the future of the blue whales and sign now!!
