Comments: My landlord has me on a "fixed term" lease 6 months at a time. Every 6 months my rent goes up by $150/mth and so does the damage deposit! I'm a single self employed mom, I have 2 teenage boys, one is autistic, 2 cats and a dog. One year ago I was renting a house with a separate suite in the basement. That house sold and I had to move into this house. This summer my rent will be over $1400. The house was built in the 70's, hot water tank already gone, is mouse infested and desperately needs a new roof! My chances of getting affordable accomodation is nil!!! This has to stop!!!

Comments: I really think the government should start thinking more. If Atlanta USA has 4 Million people and a 400 000.00 house is a HUGE one than what the heck is calgary doin when we only have 1 Million. If canada is so keen on being like the US then they should find out what they are doing and maybe make some RIGHT choices for this city.

Comments: I totally agree that something has to be done about the rent increases in this city. My rent is rising by 50% this month. So I feel for all those out there who are struggling with finding an affordable place to live.

Comments: Our landlords are having a second child and have to sell. We are extremely luck because they found use a place to move to that is only slightly more expensive. If not for them we would be homeless because of this rental situation.

Comments: We thankfully bought a duplex before purchase costs got way out of hand and don't need to rent out our basement. Unfortunately for our friends however, they are left having to rent hardly affordable basement suites, or rent out part of their house to afford mortgage payments. Please be considerate of the living conditions of your fellow citizens, and the reality of our under-employed city.

Comments: This is not necessarily an easy issue to solve, as fire exit regulations, parking space, etc. need to be considered. However, given the housing shortage, more thought needs to go into finding ways to keep these suites open, inspecting rezoning for basement or illegal suits, and finding a compromise around parking (e.g. each house gets one or two parking permits for street parking in high density areas).

Comments: As a single parent in the city who works from home and has 2 children I am trying my best to provide for, how do they expect us as parents even ones who aren't single parents to put away all the extra things that our kids need, such as a college education, extra cirricular activitities to keep them happy, out of trouble, and activities, not to mention, just give them a better life, if the govt is going to allow people to gouge us of every extra dime that we have. I am beyond appauled, and hope that maybe just one person will decide not to turn a blind eye to this.
