The petition

Cut the speed on the road and help protect the lives of our children.

The section of the B482 that passes Cadmore End Church of England School in Buckinghamshire is excessively dangerous. After the road bend travelling South, the road straightens and there is a downhill section where drivers pick-up speed as they approach the school. The road passes within 3ft of the school buildings at the front of the school and children and adults can be swept off the pavement as they cross from one side to the other.

This section of road is deemed too dangerous to allow a crossing patrol to help children cross the road, yet children and adults must cross without any help, often taking excessive risk due to speeding or overtaking motorists.

Given the current guidance asking Councils to consider 20mph speed restrictions outside schools, we the undersigned believe that you must reduce the speed limit further on the section passing the school to 30mph. This should be accompanied by appropriate road markings and signage.

There have been fatalities on this road involving children in the past; indeed we have a memorial garden at the school dedicated to such a past event. Please help us improve the safety of this section for drivers and pedestrians alike, before it is too late to avoid another tragedy.
