The petition

Lafarge Canada’s Brookfield Cement Plant in Nova Scotia is planning to contract with the NS government’s Resource Recovery Fund Board to collect and burn used tires as a so-called alternative fuel.

We are extremely concerned and oppose this proposal on account of the undesirable human health and environmental impacts that will follow. Scientifically based information sources tell us that air and water quality will be adversely affected, not only locally but as far away as Halifax and similarly distanced surrounding areas. We are absolutely convinced that incremental exposure to toxic pollutants like heavy metals and cancer causing dioxins that result from burning tires as industrial fuel in cement plant kilns not designed for this purpose will endanger our health, our children’s health, the health of future generations and the environmental health of Nova Scotia.

We must not allow Lafarge to burn tires as fuel to fire their kilns. We join with thousands of others in North America who are voicing their opposition to this highly dangerous practice. We want our elected representatives to protect our health and environment now and for future generations.

Please add your name to the petition to prevent the burning of tires in Nova Scotia.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THE NOVA SCOTIA GOVERNMENT TAKE ALL NECESSARY MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT TIRES ARE NOT INCINERATED IN THE PROVINCE OF NOVA SCOTIA.
