| 881 | Jackie Bow | Hello, I am currently living in Castleforbes Square where we can only use Sky Conway. They are a northern Ireland based company whose service regularly goes down or they change the channels that we use. We do not get all the basic channels that you may get with NTL/Sky. The channels we get are from the UK. | Danninger |

| 884 | Magnet Networks | We have been reading posts on your site and in your petition and would like to give the following clarification to our customers regarding suggestions of exclusive deals with building developer. This should help explain why certain development may have only one provider.
Magnet does not have any exclusive agreements with developers. However, and perhaps this is where the confusion arises, in some cases when the developments were being built Magnet – or indeed UPC, Smart or eircom – may have been the only provider to actually connect to the development. All operators would have been given the opportunity to connect, however for various reasons, such as what network is already nearby, viability of investment etc. – not all providers took up the option. This is why sometimes only a single operator is in a development. Connecting to a development after it is built is a very expensive exercise and for most operators is not commercially viable.
We would also like to clarify that in Magnet’s case we have never taken or given money to a developer to access a site. In fact, prior to the arrival of Magnet and other alternatives to the existing cable companies the developer had to pay for a cable connection. Magnet installs its own network and equipment to provide its TV, Broadband and Phone services, and does so at no cost to the developer. Since Magnet’s arrival the sole remaining charging cable company has dropped their fees to developers. This was a good outcome for the consumer because in many cases the cost of putting cable into the development would have been passed on to home buyers.
We do understand we must continually work to so that our customers get the best service possible. As with all new business ventures there can be issues in the beginning – what determines a businesses survival is how it deals with those issues. At Magnet we have continued to improve our service and deal with quality issues as they arise. For example, we recently changed our programme information software and we added the Magnet + service – allowing pause & recording to live TV based on feedback from our customers.
One thing which we would like to point out to home owners in Magnet enabled developments is that their homes are connected to the most advanced and future proofed network in Ireland or the UK. Currently Magnet provides speeds of 50mbps in these development and has the capacity to upgrade to 100mbps and beyond. These speeds in many cases are faster than many of our customers have at their place of work. Fibre connected homes will become far more attractive to prospective buyers as they deliver the speeds that will be required for future developments such as TV on demand, internet telephony and online gaming.
Because we are not perfect we always welcome feedback from our customers and will always endeavour to ensure they enjoy our service – let us know what the issues are and we can look to address them. In addition to our regular customer service phone number you can give us your feedback, enquire about our services and seek assistance at our Boards.ie forum on http://www.boards.ie/magnet and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/magnetnetworks | Clonsaugh Industrial Estate |
