Due to the fact that my apartment complex has an exclusive contract with a firm called TVMax to provide cable television, my right to free market has effectively been limited or dissolved altogether. I fail to see how this is constitutional.
I should not be limited because of where I chose to live, however, this is the case. I work hard to provide for myself, purchased a High-Definition LCD TV, and I cannot even watch High-Definition channels because TVMax does not offer any such programming; effectively wasting the money I spent on that television.
They provide outdated equipment, poor picture quality, and I am charged around $70.00 per month for Cable service alone (due to hidden fees and mark-ups). They have also recently raised the monthly fee another $7.00 per month to use their outdated "digital" cable boxes (which only use digital technology as a more efficient means of delivering analog broadcasting) with no explanation as to why this rate increase has occurred. This is outrageous and I feel that my rights as an American are being revoked by such actions.
I attempted to purchase satellite TV service, but a high-rise condominium is blocking my signal. I cannot receive cable service from another company because my apartment complex will not allow this, even when I stated that I would pay the fees to re-wire. So where does that leave me? I SHOULD NOT be penalized due to circumstances and am outraged that the government continues to let complaints, such as mine, fall on deaf ears.
I will continue to fight for my right to choose a quality service provider and I encourage all of you to do so as well. Write letters to your representatives, sign petitions such as this, and do EVERYTHING you can.
