Improve the Butler Football Program

Go Butler Bulldogs!!! Whereas: Butler University is a top-ranked Midwest University for excellence, but its football program is ranked in the BCS third from LAST out of all the collegiate football programs in the country (ranked 237 out of 240 as of 10/1/05) Whereas: Many other colleges and universities similar to Butler\'s size and without the availability of althletic scholarships have succeeded in developing respectable football programs Whereas: Attendance is poor, and the overall attitude among students & fans is that they have accepted that Butler is \"not a good football team\" Whereas: The Athletic Director John Parry was approached at the 10/01/05 Butler vs. Morehead football game and expressed our concerns, specifically that coaching and play-calling are very poor, his response was, \"That\'s not the problem. The problem is that we just don\'t have speed and that is because we just do not have enough African Americans on our football team. And because of the nature of our University and lack of athletic scholarships, we just can\'t recruit African Americans.\" Whereas: Coach Kit Cartwright has poor managment of good players Whereas: Aside from having losing seasons, Coach Kit Cartwright has been outscored 1326 to 426 in his 4 years as head coach, and the team has seen no improvement since he has been hired Whereas: Butler now has a new respectable playing field on which to host both teams and fans We strongly urge the Butler Administration to take ownership of the complacency surrouding its football team, and immediately replace coach Kit Cartwright with a coach that is committed to creating a strong football program with the players it has and recruiting the talent that other schools in its division are successful in recruiting.
