We the undersigned concerned parents and community members wish to address the need for additional buses within the district. We understand that there is a transportation system in place, yet we feel that the system needs certain modifications. These modifications are due to the growth in population of Littlestown in the recent years. We are also aware of the guidelines for state reimbursement pertaining to the quantity of students that are transported on each bus. This again should be re-evaluated due to the population growth. In doing so we feel that the student to bus ratio will far exceed the guidelines brought forth by the state for transportation reimbursement and will omit the need for a raise in taxes.
With the above issues stated, we can now focus on the main concern of parents and community members, which is safety. Safety is a priority when it comes to the children. Not only should we acknowledge the recent uprise in child abductions but we are also aware of the daily traffic that our children face. The congestion that surrounds our community during before and after school pickup is horrendous and needs our attention. In upgrading the quantity of buses within our transportation system, we will eliminate an extremely large portion of this problem.
By the signatures attached, we as a community, have bound together to express the relevant need for change. We now turn to you, our elected officials, to make that change possible. |
