Burns Bog UNESCO World Heritage Site designation

Whereas: Burns Bog in Delta, British Columbia is recognised as having local, national and global ecological significance as a raised bog ecosystem containing several nationally and provincially listed species at risk; and whereas: Burns Bog has historical cultural significance to the First Nations of the region; and whereas: the Governments of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Metro Vancouver Regional District and the Corporation of Delta entered into a covenant to restore the raised bog ecosystem and maintain its integrity, offering opportunities for education/interpretation, sustainable recreation and scientific research. We, the residents of British Columbia ask that the government initiate the process outlined by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to establish Burns Bog in Delta, British Columbia as a World Heritage Site in recognition of this cultural and environmental landmark.
