This is a petition to pass the Safe School Improvement Act, to prohibit harassment, intimidation, and bullying in our school systems. All children have the right to obtain an education without fear. Bullying is increasingly recognized as a serious problem in schools throughout Georgia. Victims of bullying often fear school and consider it to be an unsafe place. Research has correlated students that have been bullied to internalize problems related to depression and anxiety. These victimized students typically demonstrate a decline in school attendance, academic achievement and social interaction. Bullying has even resulted into victims committing suicide as a final escape from such agonizing fear. Although bullying is rarely reported, it is "the most common form of violence in society" according to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The victims are not to fault! Please help pass this anti-bullying law to prohibit harassment, intimidation or bullying in our school systems to protect our children.
