Build The Fort Hamer Bridge

Several weeks ago a group of area residents got together and during their conversation the topic of the Ft Hamer Bridge came up. No one knew the exact status of the project and most did not know the details of the project – how was it funded; where was it going; how wide was it; etc. Everyone in the group felt it would be a good thing for residents in the greater Parrish area and one even referred to the recent survey in the Parrish Village News that indicated 70% of residents in the 34219 zip code are in favor of the bridge.

The group decided to hold an informal meeting at the River Wilderness Clubhouse to present some facts about the bridge. This meeting of a couple of dozen people went well and from there the www.forourbridge.com website and petition were launched. The group has not spent much money and funding has come from donations primarily from bridge supporters.

The group feels that it is human nature for someone against something to be very active and vocal while those for something tend to be more passive. They feel that is true of the bridge project and one of their goals is to let the Manatee County Commission along with the U.S. Coast Guard know that there are many more people who favor the bridge being built than those who oppose it.
