The City of Gloucester, England, currently only has one mainline railway station serving a population of over 100,000. A new Parkway station, on the main line, has been spoken about for some time and has a lot of support from people in the City. A new Parkway station could be built as part of the Railway Triangle Development with a station built under Metz Way. Away from the City Centre, it would be ideal to build stations to serve Tuffley (station under Coles Avenue?), Waterwells Business Park - built on loop lines - and to open the Sharpness line up to passenger traffic with new stations at Berkeley and Sharpness (Gloucester Central-Sharpness would be the new route serving these new stations, the station renamed when Parkway is built, and class 150/153 units working the route). Furtherafield, a station is needed for the growing village of Churchdown (could be served by Malvern-Warminster/Weymouth services) as well as a parkway station to serve Cinderford (could be built over the A48 by Newnham, with a connecting shuttle bus to the town) on the Maesteg-Cheltenham service. Finally, thought needs to be given to reopenting the Thornbury to Yate branch line and 121 units could work this route with the occasional 150 unit working to Bristol Temple Meads. We, the undersigned, urge those in charge to make it so.
