Many graduate schools are concerned about accepting people with GPAs that will hurt their US News ranking and this puts average BU student at a disadvantage.Flag

What about those of us that want to get into medical school, law school or ANY kind of post-undergraduate program? Just because BU's harder doesn't mean the schools we want to go on to will realize this when deciding who to accept into their programs. I did so much work in CH101 and ended up with just a C+, when a friend got an equivalent grade in a chemistry course at her college that was seriously less than high school-level. This needs to be changed.Flag

Name: Sara on Mar 3, 2011State: MassachusettsCountry: United StatesComments: This is perfectly true. It happens in so many classes, especially the pre-med courses. It's absolutely terrible. I am here on a scholarship, and no matter how hard I try or demonstrate my knowledge of the material, I am being prevented from the grades I should have due to the curve. Also due to the curve, I could potentially lose said scholarship. It seems rather ironic that the university wants a higher percentage of students to receive lower grades and fail. I completely understand working for your grades- and advocate it -and that we do not want grade inflation. However, grades should be awarded based on knowledge of material demonstrated, not on overall curve of a class. PLEASE let this petition be considered and change the policy!!!Flag

Name: Edgar Remotti on Aug 25, 2011State: New YorkCountry: United StatesComments: Grade curves and percentages are ridiculous!!! Most schools are also more lenient freshman year and have policies such as removing bad grades from GPA if the class is retaken or by offering pass/fail only freshman year like established institutions such as MIT...BU does not!Flag
