Name: MARIA CHANLEY on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Pit Bulls are frequently misunderstood as bad animals when really, it's the wrong people that get ahold of them. Do not allow this type of cruelty to continue- sponsor responsible, humane pet ownership over the ostricization of a breed of dog.Flag

Name: Juliana Satmari on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: I volunteer at a public shelter and I have met some of the most loving and affectionate pitt bulls that have been placed with caring families. If you are really concerned with the public's safety, you will impose stiffer penalties on those criminals who abuse, neglect, and breed pitt bulls that are used as fighting dogs. You should not punish the majority of people who truly care about these animals.Flag

Name: Donna Glickman on Oct 29, 2002State: CAComments: I have never seen a mean pitbull except for ones who are trained to fight. These are some of the sweetest dogs until their owners train them otherwise. Pitbulls as a breed should not be condemned. A sweet pitbull puppy was denied adoption by an animal control. They told the prospective adopter we dont adopt that breed even though this person had vet references etc.Flag

Name: Valerie Berg on Oct 29, 2002State: PAComments: As a former employee of the Bucks County SPCA and a current employee of a dog boarding and training facility, I come into contact with a great variety of dogs. Pit bulls are in no way more prone to aggressive behavior than other breeds of dog. Irresponsible owners and breeders, not the dogs, are responsible for the damage done by this breed. The sixties brought us the "malicious" German Shepherd Dog, the seventies the "demonic" Doberman Pinscher, and now it is the pit bull. Please realize that breed profiling is simply discrimination, and will not solve the dog bite problem of New Jersey or any other state. I frequently visit New Jersey with my dog, but I will boycott the state if necessary.Flag

Name: Brenda Jogan on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Several years ago, it was thought that German Shepherds were a dangerous breed, then Doberman Pinschers. Pit Bulls are no more dangerous. It is the irresponsible owners (whom this bill will not deter) who should be stopped.Flag

Name: Carla Rogers on Oct 29, 2002State: VAComments: I own dogs that are considered dangerous by others and believe that any dog can be trained to be vicious. It's not the dogs that are the problem, it's the owners or the people who train these dogs to be mean. We need to start concentrating on the people instead of the dogs.Flag

Name: Bil And Arlene Snell on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: We have owned a so called pit bull for six years, we have two grand children ages 5&2 whom we trust our dog with totally. If anything were to happen to her, we would not hesitate to purchase another dog of the same breed. As it said in the petition, go after the hideous owners who raise this breed to fight, not the breed of the dog itself. We love her very much, and she is more loving, loyal and warmer than a lot of people that I have known over my fifty nine years.Flag

Name: Misty Fleager on Oct 29, 2002State: AZComments: BSL removes well behaved and well mannered dogs from good homes and promotes criminals, who abuse the breeds in question, to move on to other breeds that are not on the list for potentially dangerous dogs. Remember that criminals are after illegal activity with and abusing of canines despite the breed. Creating that activity with any breed will satisfy the appetite of a criminal or bad dog owner. As a nation, we promote non racial attitutes but encourage prejudices against canines and their owners due to naievity and the willingness to use the media attention of a few bad dog guardians as an example for all dog guardians. Making a blanket judgement due to bad examples of cainine guardianship is a horrible reflection of what american has been striving for--justice, education, and equality.Flag
