Name: Jennifer Yori on Oct 29, 2002State: PAComments: These dogs are not the hazard, it is the people who mistreat them. Your focus should be on punishing the cruel acts of irresponsible owners, not singling out a breed as the issue. I spend most of my spare time saving the lives of these poor mistreated and misunderstood dogs.Flag

Name: Frances Madden on Oct 29, 2002State: MAComments: the proper legislation would be to enact laws protecting dogs and people against the cruelty and abuse that they suffer at the hands of people who teach them to fight; and if the dog doesn't fight it will be used as "bait". Breed specific legislation punishes the innocent canines and humans. Let's enact stricter cruelty laws, with stricter punishments and then enforce these laws.Flag

Name: Sharon Bruder on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Bill makes no sense at all as it does not address the true problem. Its not the type of dog its the type of people. And securing a dog behind a high fence only obscures it so any abuse or mistreatment is well hidden.Flag

Name: Micole Sharlin on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Pit Bulls treated well and loved by their families are just as (or more so) loving and sweet in return. Ours (a pit bull who was adopted from the pound after being abused and neglected) lives happily with a golden retriever and often spends cuddle time with babies and special needs adults. Targeting responsible owners of pit bulls is unfair and irresponsible. It does nothing to stop the abusive owners and unfairly stigmatizes a breed that, if not severely abused, is known for its loyalty, intelligence and loving personality.Flag

Name: Glenda Gunby on Oct 29, 2002State: GAComments: I feel like my (2)11yr old boys(pit bulls) are like my children. Actually grown children now. Rocky & Rambo have thier own Christmas stockings and Easter baskets. They have pics with Santa and have entered and won numorus Halloween costume contest(1yr on the front page of our major newspaper). We have a 19, 9, & 2 year olds. They all have a very close relationship with both Rocky & Rambo. I feel that like having children, we take on the responsibility of parenting. You do not just let them go wild and raise themselves. I know some people breed like rabbits and take NO responsibility, BUT I do not feel that their mistakes should fall on the people that do take care, love and RESONSIBILITY for what ever belongs to that person. By the way my 2 boys have never fought each other or any other dogs or people/children.Flag

Name: Karen Lesto on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Our pit bull "Bud" was a 10 month old puppy when we found him in NYC on a freezing February day. He's been with us for almost 3 years now, & is smart, loving, playful, lives with 2 cats, loves all other dogs & has not displayed an ounce of agression, even to strangers coming onto our property or into our house. He's an education in showing that it's how a dog is treated & trained that will determine how he behaves. I pity the poor pit bulls that are used and abused by an element I will never understand.Flag

Name: Anne Soden on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: This is not the way to go about controlling dangerous dogs. The same can apply to rottweilers, german sheperds, etc. Profiling one breed is wrong because not all of them are vicious. Legislators should target those who abuse these animals and train them to be aggressive. Fines and/or jail time should be increased to stop this abuse.Flag

Name: Kimberly Shaub on Oct 29, 2002State: NJComments: Once again the dog breed & the responsible owners are the ones who will pay. Meanwhile, the human abusers will still be able to perpetuate crimes against this dog breed. Educate yourself and don't let this happen.Flag

The people of NJ who are responsible pet owners should not be the target of a bill that is designed to satisfy a minority not the majority. I beleive it is unconstitutional and should not be passed. This bill will not solve the problem of vicious dog attacks.Flag
