The visas finally arrived and Almaz and Abdeta are coming home. It has been a long and draining road but I am relieved that this fight is over.

*******UPDATE SEPT 1/10 - We got word today that Almaz and Abdeta's visas where issued.  We can't thank you all enough for the support you have shown.  I hope that no other family needs to wait 11 months for a Visa!

*********Thank you to all who took the time to vote.....today (August 25, 2010) I was able to deliver 827 signatures to our MP.  Please continue to show your support and we will continue to collect names as long as we need to!

I would like to ask you all to please take a moment to help us be heard. Our documents arrived in Nairobi in October 2009, and in November it looked like we would be traveling soon with our travel group.. . .the remainder of the travel group was able to travel yet we are still waiting. Our MP's office has been involved for the last few months and our MP has spoken with Minister Kenney and has asked him to get involved and still nothing. Each week we are told to expect an update in another week and nothing. . . no answers, no visas, just more delays. We have been doing everything we know to do behind the scenes in order to fulfill Nairobi 's requirements and have even supplied them with DNA proof that Almaz and Abdeta ARE FULL biological siblings and yet still 2 months after providing them these results we are still waiting for some type of response. Please consider signing this petition to show Minister Kenney that you do not agree with the further delays in the issuing of Permanent Residence Visas for Almaz and Abdeta. This is not a request we as a family have made lightly but we feel we have done everything we can do. These children need to be united with their family! How sad is it that our government is the one keeping our family apart? Please share your thoughts. Thank you, Dale and Donna Landega

Your petitioners call upon Parliament to hold the Government of Canada to account and demand that the Minister of Immigration and Citizenship abide by his stated promise to give priority to adoptive children under Canadian immigration law and issue travel documents to Almaz and Abdeta Landega immediately.

The momentum behind this effort has grown into something I never imagined possible when we first started. It is exhausting to keep fighting these bureaucratic delays but seeing this level of public attention reminds me we are not doing this alone.

This is rediculous. The DNA proof was sitting right there so what is the hold up???
