This petition is of utmost importance to the customers, staff and community surrounding Nexus Art Cafe and the Northern Quarter in Manchester.
To cut a long story short all we want is the permission from the powers that be to be able to paint the boring grey front of our cafe in a design which reflects our personality, ethics and vibe.
As Nexus is a not-for-profit organisation and is a part of central buildings and the methodist church, and also part of a conservation area, this is proving to be a difficult feat to achieve.
The whole point of Nexus Art Cafe even existing is to be a hub of creativity, community and spirituality (as well as serving truly awesome pies) and if we let our creative and community projects be trodden down by others, well, then we just wouldn't be a very good Nexus Art Cafe would we? It would all be rather rubbish.
Nexus was started around 2 years ago by a lovely chap called Cris, and over that time it has transformed from being a spare empty basement of an old building with two staff members scurrying away to having a whole bunch of lovely staff members, a beautiful functioning cafe space, exhibition space, gig venue, art studio, volunteer hub and community center. All of this has been through the elbow grease of our staff and volunteers and just generally you guys who love the space.
The only things thats holding us back from expanding even further (oh yes, there are plenty more plans) is our extremely boring and dull cafe front. Its just, well, GREY.
If you haven't seen it, heres what it looks like right now:

Isn't it silly that we have to go through three (or more) levels of higher powers to get a lick of paint on our walls?
Signing this petition really means SO MUCH to us.
