This choice by Apple INC. will negatively affect Apple's presence in the enterprise and educational space by leaving current Xserve owners no reasonable upgrade path. Mac OS X administrators and deployment specialists need a server product that addresses the following criteria to continue making Mac OS X and iOS devices work on an enterprise level:
- A server solution that is rack mountable
- A server solution with redundant power supplies
- A server solution with out-of-band management
Mac OS based administrators find this announcement also makes no assurance about the future of the Mac OS X Server software platform.
We the undersigned call for Apple to resume development of the Xserve product or introduce another product that meets the criteria mentioned above. We also ask that Apple clarify their position on the future of the Mac OS X Server operating system.

Keep the xserve alive. It is the only sensible choice for serious deployment.
Disappointed. This really kills the mac platform in schools and professional offices.
Fix this apple! We need real hardware for our mac environment.
Ridiculous decision. Enterprise customers need proper rackmount gear. Apple is just tossing us aside.
Total BS. My company runs everything on xserves. Where are we supposed to go from here? Mac mini servers are a joke.

What a mistake. We use these in our server room daily and have for years. The Mac Pro is just not the same thing.
