Prior to the renovation of the Porter C Building, the college was graced with the presence of the greatest on campus eatery UC Santa Cruz had to offer. It had the best burritos. It had the best quesadillas. It had the best wraps. It had the best burgers. It had the best shakes. And, it most certainly had the best name: The Hungry Slug.
When the renovations began, questions arose if our beloved eatery would return. Rumors swirled of what might take its place. In the end, what we learned was bittersweet. The previous owners were returning, along with their unbeatable food, but at a steep price: it would be "The Hungry Slug" no longer, but instead "The Porter Slug Cafe and Grill".
It may seem like a trivial issue to start a petition over, but some things are better left unchanged. The Hungry Slug had character and personality. It was a name that rolled off the tongue when we wanted to espouse its greatness to the uninitiated. It had an adjective. Every fan of the Hungry Slug can probably name their own reason they support that brilliant name. Therefore, we, the undersigned, humbly request that the cafe of Porter College be returned its rightful and glorious name: The Hungry Slug.
