We the indigenous people of South Africa having suffered the brutality of colonisation do hereby petition and demand the return of The Culinan Diamonds to the people of South Africa from whom it was stolen during the era of the colonisation of the lands by the British Crown.

Neither The British Crown nor the Queen of England have any moral or legal right, by common law or otherwise, to retain possession of what is the collective property of the South African nation that was taken by force of arms during a colonial process.

As Indigenous people we demand that our property be rightfully returned to us in the name of justice and restoration of Indigenous rights. We state without prejudice that we never agreed nor invited Britain to invade Africa not to extract our precious stones or minerals nor implied in any manner whatsoever that they had any right to them.

We place on record that we the indigenous people have never invaded Britain nor have we claimed their treasures by deceit nor by force of arms and thus demand that Britain reciprocate and return what is our property unconditionally. We further state unequivocally that the Culinan Diamond represents the very Spirit of our People and the heart of our nation and causes undue pain whenever we see it on the head of another head of state other rather than in our national treasury or under our hand.

We demand that the Diamond, our national treasure and heritage, be restored to us that we and those yet to come find peace with ourselves. We believe that the British Crown will see the error and damage of Colonialism and will act with conscience and do what is right for both its people and ours. To wear the property of others, taken with blood and arms, stands against everything that humanity stands for and in the spirit of our humanity want our property back.

We believe that common decency will common decency will prevail and justice will be enacted on both the global stage and in our respective countries. We ask not for what belongs to Britain but what was taken from us.
