We the people do hereby petition the City of Hancock, Michigan to reopen White Street and allow for two directions of traffic.

For over one year downhill traffic has been redirected down Lincoln/hwy 41 and alternate residential streets. This has created a traffic nuisance for residents throughout Hancock and the Keweenaw. The closure of downhill White Street has removed a main travel artery to access downtown Hancock, the Lift Bridge and the south side of the Portage. By eliminating traffic through downtown Hancock it has disrupted the economy, commerce and access to local businesses.

The Hancock City Council made this decision without any traffic management strategy in place and did so without the input or approval of the people they represent.

We respectfully request that City of Hancock reverse this decision and bring back White Street!
