Almost half way there!

As I'm writing this, the petition to bring DC Nation back to Cartoon Network has almost 5,000 signatures, which is half the amount of signatures we need. Considering I made this petition only yesterday, this is amazing!

The amount of support and attention this petition has got within the last 24 hours is astounding! I can't begin to thank you all enough for all that you've done. You've reminded me just how awesome the DC Nation fandoms are and I have never been happier to be a part of it.

Please keep on spreading the word to your friends and fellow fans. Let's show Cartoon Network once and for all how we feel. Let's prove to them that fans are more than just ratings--we're human beings and we want to be heard.

Love you guys!

    Hi Sara,

I accidentally signed the petition twice and wanted to know if that would be a problem? If it is feel free to delete one I'm numbers 5,203 and 5,208.

    Thank You

    Hello there, Kimberlan :)

Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it, but no worries. We've reached well over 10,000 signatures now so I think we should be all right!

Thank you so much for signing! <3

I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, because I'm totally behind you with this petition (which I did sign), but why go for 15,000 signatures?

Seriously, if I were one of the CN bigwigs, I'd be concerned primarily with two things: firstly, the number of signatures, and secondly (and also more importantly), the time it took to OBTAIN those signatures. In just three days, roughly, there were 10,000 signatures on here. And I'm assuming you intend on presenting this list to CN at some point. That being said, a lot of momentum has been lost in the past few days. Enough that, from my perspective, it could harm the purpose of this petition.

All I'm asking is that you please consider what the 15,000 signatures goal could mean. On the one hand, CN may actually prefer to see a list of signatures, and judge it purely by the number of signatures. I'm inclined to believe that this, as well as the amount of time that has elapsed since DC Nation was removed from their schedule, will factor into their decision.

Again, I'm totally behind this petition, but being a fan of YJ, probably my favorite show on television right now, I just felt I should register my concern.

@Nightwing - Thank you for your kind words and thank you for supporting the cause! :)

@Clay - The point of raising the signature goal is to show that we're not giving up, that we can and we will prove that there are a lot of people who are upset by this. After hitting 10,000 signatures, more and more people were still signing the petition, so I raised the goal to illustrate that.

You're right, the momentum has slowed down a bit since the petition was created, but it hasn't stopped altogether, which is an important thing to keep in mind. The fact that we reached 10k so quickly is awesome, but I don't think we necessarily have to hit 10k every three days. As long as the number of signatures continues to grow, I think we'll be fine.

I have to admit I'm still a bit confused by your comment. How exactly would more signatures harm the petition? Simply because the momentum has slowed down, or is there something else?

Either way, thank you for your input! I appreciate you taking the time to address your concerns and am always interested to hear things from another perspective.

Sorry for the confusion. I'll try to be more clear on this...

I'm not saying that the number of signatures would harm the petition. But when Cartoon Network sees the dates on the petition, and they realize that a considerable amount of momentum was lost after the first few days, and that things slowed down much more thereafter, they'll believe that support for DC Nation isn't much stronger than what is indicated on the list of signatures, regardless of what TV ratings may otherwise indicate.

They will, however, acknowledge that fans of DC Nation are very much committed to the shows. That in itself should be sufficient reason for them to give DC Nation better treatment.

On the other hand, let's say hypothetically that the petition had been submitted after the 10,000 signatures had been gathered. Cartoon Network would have been forced to assume that because the momentum had not slowed down noticeably, things would easily have increased at the same rate, had the signature goal been set any higher.

As a result of the aforementioned hypothetical scenario, Cartoon Network would still have come to the conclusion that DC Nation fans are committed to the shows. But their inability to gauge a more precise number of supporters of DC Nation and, by association, the petition itself (that is, those who probably would have added their signatures had the petition gone passed the 10,000 mark) would likely have an even greater impact on them.

See, my point is just this: 10,000 signatures gathered at an even rate of time forces the network to question just how many signatures might have been accumulated over an even greater period of time, whereas any visible decrease in momentum can give them some estimation of the number of actual supporters.

But that's not to say that the petition won't work now that it's not gathering as many signatures per day as it was earlier. At roughly eleven days, there are still (as of this writing) nearly 14,700 signatures. At an average rate of more than 1,300 per day, that's not bad. We're definitely still making progress -- although I wouldn't plan to go beyond the 15,000 mark for the reasons I've listed above.

Anyway, I hope that made more sense.

  7. # Sara on 26 October 2012 at 12:59:

Yes, that does make more sense now. Thanks for the clarification.

I definitely see your point. However, I will not be closing the petition off to anyone else who wants to sign it after we reach 15,000. I don't think I'll raise the target goal any higher, but if people are still signing that just means people still support the cause, in my eyes.

Also, once the petition hit 10,000 I actually did send it to CN. However, I have not heard back from them yet. I actually mentioned that in the more recent blog post I made on this petition.
