Name: Mary Cutler on Mar 21, 2007Comments: If the rumored closing of the EEC in Brick is true, I'd like to know why it's been kept so quiet. Voters specifically approved the $ to build the EEC for special education. That it has not been fully utilized is due more to program changes than lack of students. The verbal behavior program that was instituted under Dr. Carbone has not been properly implemented as evidenced by Dr. Carbone himself resigning from the program. What is going to happen to the current students To send them out of district is going to cost more in the long run. A commitment must be made to properly support the disabled programs in terms of funding and staff training and support. Other districts are doing it. Perhaps Brick should look into joining forces with another district - Point Pleasant, Toms River etc into making the EEC a great school for disabled students in the area.Flag

Name: Marie Woodruff on Mar 21, 2007Comments: As the parent of several special ed students in Lacey Township, NJ, I feel that any time services are compromised for New Jersey's disabled community it is a detriment to society at large. Many studies are suggesting that the earlier a child receives services, the more productive they become later in life. I urge Brick Township to reconsider the closing of the Education Enrichment Center.Flag

Name: MaryTara Wurmser on Mar 21, 2007Comments: Do not close the EEC. This center is an amazing brand new facility that the district should be proud of - intended to help keep our children IN DISTRICT. Use the EEC to its fullest potential which it was built for instead of shuttling our kids out of district or providing second best placement. In the end with the EEC shut our kids and the district will be the ones paying more for it....Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 21, 2007Comments: Please do not close down the EEC school. These kids are developmentaly delayed with speech delays and other issues that concern every student's family at the EEC, and if you close the school, where will the children go Where will they be able to receive the help in their everyday lives, which counts now because they're so young and your still developing. Please don't close the school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Flag

Name: Mary Ann Daniele on Mar 21, 2007Comments: Why would you close a school for children who need it more than anyone else It is unconceivable that this township, after all we have had to endure, with the former Mayor, now we have cuts in BoED to meet our financial needs, where were you when things about our budget i.e. didn't seem right now the children and parents must suffer Corruption has a large price, but not for the corrupter, for the innocents! Stop the insanity of this and let our needy children get the help that Bricktown residents have been paying for years in over charged taxes, have a conscience and do the right thing.Flag

Children deserve fair and equal treatment and a chance to learn in an environment that's condusive to do so! Shame on You!Flag

Name: Jeanne H. Wurmser, Ph.D on Mar 22, 2007Comments: Closing the Education Enrichment Center of the Brick Township School District will not save costs in the long run. Moreover, it will create additional stress and burdens for families of children with Special Needs. Sending these children on long bus rides to another public school or private school will make it impossible for parents to collaborate closely with teachers and Child Study Team members to help their child achieve their potential.Flag

Name: Fred Lazzati on Mar 22, 2007Comments: Education is the future for children with special needs. Teachers had such an impact on my life that delivered hands-on education to support my learning disability. Please do not take away a program which will enrich a child's mind and life by making them want to follow their mentors words and advice and pursue their dreams. I have always stated that my teacher were my inspiration because they believed in me when others didn't. They made me want to stay in school and pursue education; I ended up getting a college degree. Don't take away something so precious to a child--their education--be a hero and do what's right. Keep the EEC open.Flag

Name: Jennifer Alderson on Mar 22, 2007Comments: March 22,2007 Dear Senator Ciesla, This letter is in regards to the proposed closure of the Educational Enrichment Center in Brick Township, New Jersey following the 2006/2007 school year. 1 in 100 children in New Jersey are diagnosed with Autism on a daily basis. This is higher than the national average of 1 in 150 children. The Brick EEC is a facility tailor made to serve the needs to children with autism and catering to multi-disabled children. To shut this school is doing a disservice to the special needs children in Brick NJ. Sincerely, Jennifer AldersonFlag

Name: Fred Lazzati on Mar 22, 2007Comments: The people that were my biggest inspirations were my teachers. They were my mentors who worked tiredlessly to give me the proper education I needed and hands-on support when I didn't understand the subject matter at all. These teachers allowed me to believe in myself and want to spite the odds and be a somebody; something most people didn't think I could be. I ended up pursuing one of my dreams--to get a college degree. Please do not take away a program that will enrich a child's mind and life, by providing them with a mentor that will allow them to pursue their dreams like my mentors encouraged me to pursue mine. Please do the right thing and allow the teachers deliver the special care and attention to those who need it most--the children. They will thank you for it someday.Flag

Name: Jo-Ann Quick-Hopkins on Mar 22, 2007Comments: How sad! These children deserve every oportunity to thrive. After spending all that tax payer money to build this school and give them and their parents hope, you pull the rug right out from under them! How unfair to do this to these families. Hopefully this petition will make people rethink this.Flag

Name: Candace Mejias on Mar 22, 2007Comments: My son was diagnosed at 18 months with autism and since he has been at the EEC he is doing excellent. I already have in mainstream classes 3 hours a week and look forward to his remaining years with the EEC. The staff at the school is wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better program. I know that my son's needs are being met every day. Sincerely, Candace MejiasFlag

Name: Susan Siemsen on Mar 22, 2007Comments: It is absolutely imperative that this school remain open for the children with autism (on the autism spectrum). The school was built to meet the growing needs of children with autism. It is unconscionable that the district would not accommodate these kids, and it will be more costly to send them out of the district, and certainly emotionally upsetting/disruptive to these children with challenges. Please find a way to cut down the budget that will not be injurious to the children. Sincerely, Susan SiemsenFlag

Name: Sharon Long on Mar 22, 2007Comments: My child currently attends this school. If they close this school they will not have a "most appropriate" placement for him. We were brought back to Brick from out-of-district placement with the promises of equivilent services. If they close this school, we will have no choice but to go back out of district. How is this best serving the children and our communityFlag
