Simon Cooper | Please dont sack Bella she does wonderful work
Suzanne Clift | Bella and the Barnet Breastfeeding Network provide an essential service, which is an invaluable support to new breastfeeding mums.
Rebecca Summer |
Nicki Lomas | It is a disgrace that Bella's position at Barnet Hospital is to be axed. Considering the benefits of breastfeeding to both mother and baby, i would have thought the NHS would be promoting it. Women need educating in this area and encouragement as it is an important part of parenting!! The NHS would be better scrapping the middle management who make these ludicrous decisions as opposed to withdrawing a service that Bella provides that us mothers so desperately need!!

Nick Rundle | It is important that Bella's role continues within the Barnet and Chase Farm Trust. Vital in fact. My fiancee is about to give birth in a week, and is keen to breastfeed. However i fear that without the important support that a role such as Bella's provides, if she experiences difficulties breastfeeding then she will be at risk from PND and baby may suffer as a result. Surely the NHS are aware that mothers are keen to breastfeed and need all the support they can get. A lot of mothers can suffer from depression and feel like "a failure" if they are unable to breastfeed their child successfully. This should be something the Barnet and Chase Farm Trust should be discouraging by having people in positions such as Bella's as surely treatment for depression is a bigger drain on NHS resources. If the women have the support they need to begin with then this could be avoided! Please reconsider and reinstate Bella's role within the Trust, she is greatly needed!!!!!
| 307 | Pippa Moss | "Non business critical" is a disgraceful reason for terminating this role in the hospital. Support for breast feeding mothers and babies should be treated as "critical" in itself, for so many reasons.
If it wasn't Bella, my baby would have continued to lose weight after birth, with no one able to tell me why, or what to do about it (tongue-tie meant he was unable to feed efficiently until Bella referred us to a specialist and then continued offering ongoing support).
If it wasn't for her and the support group she runs, I would surely have lost my sanity in those early weeks, and I also made a few good friends there who have proved to be of invaluable support.
Bella is always there on the end of the phone, no matter what time of day. Barnet would be a lonely place for new mothers without her. I feel sad and dis-heartened that this is even being considered. |
| 308 | Anonymous | shocking, outragous, disappointing...
How is this going to help mothers who want to continue to breastfeed? |
Nadjia McGuinness | I think there isn't enough support for new moms out there, and this lady sounds absolutely wonderful. There aren't enough like her in the healthcare proffession.
Esmeralda Weyman |
Katie Barrett | Helping mothers and babies learn to breastfeed is one of the most important jobs that anyone can do and should certainly be a chief concern for the NHS.
frances huber | Bella must be kept on in her crucial role at Barnet Hospital. Breastfeeding is recognised as essential for infant health and her support is vital in enabling mothers to maintain breast feeding. As a first-time mother, I had no idea how difficult breastfeeding would prove and the practical and emotional support I have received and am continuing to receive from Bella is nothing short of a life-line.
Marion Groshong | This is a very important job: please keep it in place.
Sam | this is wrong. don't do it. bella was great and helped us a lot.
Simon | Save Bella

Miss C Reed | I have known Bella Dale for over 5 years. I attended a teen pregnancy group when pregnant with my 4 1/2 yr old daughter. I had a very difficult pregnancy & labour. My daughter had jaundice at birth & required treatment for a number of days, to lower her bilirubin levels she neded to feed regularly. However, she did not feed at all for 3 days! I found many of the midwives on Victoria ward were so over worked that they didnt have the time to help me establish breastfeeding! (and i now know this is the case with many other new mothers). Bella came in to hospital (on her day off!) to help me. She set a plan of action & within 48 hours my daughter's jaundice had gone & she was feeding beautifully. I continued to feed her for 10 months. Without Bella i could never have done it! I suffered from depression and Bella's unconditional support helped me to stay sane! I worked voluntarily at the Breastfeeding support group for some time and see the positive effects of such a group. Without the experience & expertise that Bella brings to the trust the breastfeeding rate will decline with dramatic consequences! If Bella loses her job Barnet & chase farm will lose an INVALUABLE & IRREPLACEABLE member of the trust!
Mrs Richards | My teenage daughter & her baby daughter were dramatically helped by Bella (and still receive support nearly 5 years later). Her Role within the NHS was described as "Non Business Critical" however if you think of all the women she has prevented getting Post Natal Depression, all the babies she has saved from malnutrition & all of the Teen mums she has educated then I'd say she is not only business critical but LIFE CRITICAL!!!!!!
Neil Reed | I see the benefits of the support Bella Dale gave my teenage daughter when she had her baby. I feel Bella is invaluable because of the unlimited support she has given my daughter and many other mothers. As one of the richest countries in the world the UK has the money to provide a first class health service for everyone. However the Government chose to jeopardise the health of our nation to take leisurely trips to the south of france or waste money on useless projects such as the millenium dome!
Anna Seth-Smith |
Kate Banham | what is happening with the NHS! they should be concentrating on keeping the excellent staff, not getting rid of them!
Yvette Segal | If it wasn't for the breastfeeding support at Barnet Hospital I would have given up in the first few weeks but as a result of the help I am still breastfeeding my son who will be 1 next week.
Anonymous | Please keep Bella on at Barnet!!! She has played such an important role to so many mums and babies!!! Barnet need her!!!
Olga Taylor | Bella helped me to establish a feeding process for my baby. I am personally abslutely appaled to hear that her job is being axed.
mrs perry | i had a bad time breastfeeding and needed help and never got help, of course why should the government care its only the babies who suffer. so we can now have crusaders like jamie oliver to teach us nutrition when the first good nutrtion should be from the mom not a tin

Emily Primrose-Brown | My due date is the 15th April 07 - i am already unhappy with the level of care recieved at Barnet Hospital, so i am saddened but not shocked to learn of Bella's cutback - Please keep her there to provide advice to Breast feeding mothers - its an important role and not one to be taken lightly.
Christine Friend | As a local NCT ANT I here first hnd about the care women receive at your hospital. Bella is praised constantly and the community would be bereft without her passion. Let's please move forwards, not backwards.
Michelle Thorne | I do not know but I believe she provides a vital service to mothers who want to breastfeed but who struggle. I struggled myself and ended up bottle feeding my son. Although I accept my decision, maybe things wuld have been different with a specialist to help me at the time.

samantha king-grant |
keith&linda moss | As my first grandchild had much help and advice from this person i am saddened that you are even considering doing away with her services. new mums and babies sometimes need all the help they can get from someone with this much experience.
Tracey Robertson |
Anonymous | Loosing Bella, an excellent communicator & motivator, full of knowledge to pass on would be a great loss for new mums!!! We enjoyed her ante-natal classes and could not have had better motivation for breast-feeding. Her post is so important!!! I suppose Tony Blair wouldn't know about that & wonder whether Cherie would have benefited from her classes.
Juliette Kelvin |
sara levan |
Zoe Leigh | Bella and her team supported me in successfully feeding my twins. This has given them the best healthy start to life. Bella's service provided medical , emotional and practical support ensuring healthy mum and babies.
Andrea Leib | I wish there had been someone like this when I gave birth to my son at the hospital I had to go to.
Karen Wilkinson |
Marina Waddington | A breastfeeding specialist advisor is crucial for mothers especially when community midwives are so rushed off their feet and unable to give focused support.
Claire Isherwood | After having my first baby I have found the support of the breastfeeding specialist staff invaluable. There is no doubt that I would have given up in the first few weeks as I had problems feeding right from the start. 2 months on i am still using the support of staff and the group and advice keep me focused on breastfeeding. Without the post it will surely mean that the remaining staff will be stretched to the limit resulting in loss of support to new mothers. If the NHS and in particular Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital NHS Trust value the benefit of breastfeeding they should reconsider the plans to axe the post of Head of the Antenatal Education and Breastfeedling Support.
| 346 | Melanie (and Joseph) Arazi | Please please please keep Bella. She was the only person able and willing to help me when I was struggling with breastfeeding both my sons. Her role is vital for all new mums and it would be a travesty if she went.
What do we need? BELLA
When do we need her? FOREVER |
Daphne Brown | The valuable help given to my daughter after the birth of my grandson, by Bella, made a possible major problem a great deal easier to overcome and resulted in a happy first time Mum and a thriving contented baby
Michelle Eshkeri | Breastfeeding is difficult enough for new mums and babies without the vital support of people like Bella. Please reconsider - this would be a mistake.
Lynn Murphy | I work with new mums at the active birth centre and now personally of anumber of women who have attended my classes who have been helped by Bellas wonderful support.
Lisa Haycock | this move is totally contrary to best practice advertised by the NHS itself of encouraging exclusive breast feeding for 6 months. Being a new mum is daunting enough without the added pressure of having no advice in those vital first hours for feeding. I strongly disapprove of this move
