The petition
A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SIGNED THIS PETITION. BELLA HEARD ON FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER THAT HER JOB IS SAFE. EXCELLENT NEWS I AM SURE YOU WILL AGREE.
Bella Dale heads up the Antenatal Education and Breastfeeding Support at Barnet Hospital. She is a specialist midwife, and a real expert in her field. (She was a runner-up in the 2004 Evening Standard NHS Champions Awards). Hospital bosses are proposing to axe her post as they believe it to be ‘non-business critical.’
It is a widely recognised and upheld fact that ‘breast is best’, yet Britain has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world. Almost 9 out of 10 women who give up breastfeeding in the first six weeks do so reluctantly, often because they have not learned the knack of getting the baby to latch on properly. It makes no sense to me whatsoever for the Trust to be considering cutting this post.
If we want to see this service continue we need to take action NOW. The petition has to be presented by 13th October 2006 in order to be considered. The petition will be sent to Mrs Averil Dongworth, Chief Executive of Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust.
Please add your name to the petition. Your details will not be used for any other purpose.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to the proposed loss of the Infant Feeding Specialist post at Barnet Hospital. We believe it provides an essential service to families, and there would be a negative impact on the local community if this post were no longer to exist. We call for this vital role to continue.
