Name: Alison Purvis And David Dinniwell on Feb 10, 2010Comments: We feel that to not provide adequate resourcing to supprt Mrs. Randall during the remainder of the 2010 school year will have a negative impact on the students enrolled in this class, as with each new member this is less one on one time that is available for the students. In addition to this, I have concern over the safety of my child given that there is no washroom in class and with even less available supervision due to this expanded class size, the likliehood of a child being left unsupervised is greatly increased. No daycare would allow a ratio of 1:24 so the fact that the school board does not seem concerned especially given the high percentage of 4 year olds (JK's) in this class is unacceptable.Flag

I agree that support is required to help manage, not only the number of students, but the fact that a large percentage of them are new and therefore require more guidance. ThanksFlag

Name: Linda Gambrell on Feb 10, 2010Comments: I would love to see another professional in the room... I have 20 in my kindergarten class here at HG (we reorganized in September when I had 23) with a larger room than Mrs. Randall, and it is VERY busy. I couldn't imagine 24, especially having the blended JK/SK. An extra set of hands would certainly help Mrs. Randall continue to 'teach' more, and 'manage' less. I'm sure at this point of the year an extra class is not an option, even though she has exceeded the Ministry cap of 23 students, so an extra adult would certainly make a positive difference and would allow Mrs. Randall and another aide to pull smaller groups for guided reading, literacy and math concepts without interruptions.Flag

Name: Karen And David Hayes on Feb 10, 2010Comments: Mrs. Randall's JK/SK class now exceeds the Ministry cap of 23 students. It therefore seems obvious that a teaching aid is required. In addition to not meeting the Ministry standard there are safety issues around having that many young students in the class and only one teacher. We look forward to having this issue rectified as soon as possible.Flag
