Name: Margi Park-Landau, Co-Founder Sact. Jewish Film Festival on Jun 4, 2010Comments: Support for the arts is critical to a vibrant American culture and local community...it allows young and adult students a vehicle for expression, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skill-building. The arts are CORE to future American economic and workforce development. Thank you, M. Park-LandauFlag

Name: Stephanie Gularte on Jun 4, 2010Comments: The arts in Sacramento are already grossly underfunded. When governments reduce their support for the arts, they are not cutting frills. Rather, they are undercutting an industry that is a cornerstone of tourism, economic development, and the revitalization of many downtowns. When governments increase their support for the arts, they are generating tax revenues, jobs, and a creativity-based economy.Flag

Name: Robert Knable on Jun 4, 2010Comments: As a professor of music at Sacramento City College, I am seeing the devastating cuts to the arts programs throughout the state. Don't cave in to the usual pressure to cut funding for SMAC. People need the arts now more than ever. Don't sell us out to big business and basketball!Flag

Name: Sue Anne Foster on Jun 5, 2010Comments: As an Artist-in-the-Schools, I see first hand what happens when the children have opportunities to be creative and gain a new sense of self-esteem. In ART they they practice making choices, solving problems and expressing themselves. The ARTS sustain, maintain and help build the kind of responsible citizens we need to make our communities work better. After 3 years I continued to volunteer at the school, but that in no longer an option. After all the preparation and training to build a versatile network which serves schools and the community, it would be practical to preserve this investment. SMAC has established a successful avenue to work in the schools at a critical time in the community. As I wind up a volunteer project (which had a startup mini grant from SMAC) creating a 30 foot Rain Forest on the stage at Glenwood Elementary, I get questions from the kids, "Are we going to have ART next year?"Flag

Name: Esther Volkan on Jun 5, 2010Comments: Please protect the arts. The arts provide a great boost for the economy, and are a good motivation to get out and socialize, at restaurants, theaters, concerts, films, museums, parks, etc. And to go to all those things we need to shop for clothes and accessories, spend money on transportation. The arts are the reason we mainly get out of the house in these very dismal times.Flag

Please consider that in its multifaceted capacity SMAC serves the entire community with ongoing educational, technical, supportive, and outreach programs that have made possible the grass roots creative community that we treasure. And, of course, the Art in Public Places is recognized nationally as a major program that has contributed hugely to the City. Jean C. Roach, Docent, Art in Public PlacesFlag
