Comments: Each culture has to devise the best and most efficient method for the disposal of their dead which means using such resources as are available and in harmony with the ecology. The ancient Zoroastrians in Iran put their dead on mountain tops to be devoured by wild animals ( including vultures ). The continuation of this mode in the cities was only possible with dokhmas. Now the vultures are gone but electrc crematoriums are available. To hanker after dokhmas and vultures in the name of religion is somewhat archaic if not entirely risible. Let a good religion serve the living and the process of life. Crores on vultures ?

Comments: "Aviary at Doongerwadi" is a political stunt by our own Parsi politicians for political gains. It seems that they are trying to cover their total non-performance on all fronts, till date, by bringing up the issue of setting up of Aviary and trying to divert the attention of the masses. Setting up of Aviary is supposed to be a 15 year project. None of the present lot of Trustees would be around at that time. A typical case of vote bank politics.

Comments: Fully agree and we should not waste our community's resources on this project. Feed hungry parsis instead, fund education, incentivise child birth.....too many pressing issues in the near future to take up a 15 year project which has very low accountability or probability of success.

Comments: I am appalled that the BPP plans to waste and squander money in this manner. There are much better ways to use this amount of money - there are poor Zarthustis as well as those who need housing. To encourage marriage within the community, housing separate from parents and in-laws is needed. Why not use the money in this manner! Seriously, the BPP needs a reality check!

Comments: It was said bt the Aviary zealot Trustee in March this year that the system was working fine. This remark is documented. Now he says that the system has failed. Such inconsistency can be the result of either expediency or senility. No Aviary, no crematorium. Let a person of integrity like Farrokh Doctor run the place for some time. He is sincere and desreves an opportunity.

Comments: Dear Ladies & Gentlemen, I am a retired Parsi/Irani (born of mix parents) living in Southern Switzerland since more than 3 decades. I do visit Bombay every few years as I have family there. You might say this might not concern me as I am not a resident. But as a Parsi and a person who has lived in 7 countries on 3 continents, speaking several foregin languages, I say this bickering and small issue things should not be even thought of. Say if I die here in Switzerland, what will happen to my remains. Which birds of prey you are going to bring here or you want my family to bring my remains to India for the last rights. I have decided my body to be donated to the hospital for any parts that could be recycled into a living body and the rest to be cremated (which services are available here). The origin of our religion viz. Iran, no such dakhma exist in Tehran. The bodies are burried there. I see not a great importance how the remains are disposed off then how we live when we are alive. Therefore I would see it is very important that we use this millions of rupees spent on something of no use than on the living parsis who are living in very poor conditions. Why not feed our own people then feeding the birds. The birds can very well live in the wild but not our old and feeble people. So I beg you people in the BPP, the trustees of this old faith to not spend money on whims but to some real use. Please view the issue in an objective way. How many of the under 50 or 60 age group care about how the remains are disposed off (no offense to anybody intended - I am just thinking this in a positive way and if anybody wishes to discuss the matter by email with me I am free to answer them) than to take care of their brothers and sisters when they are living. Thank you for giving time to read my comments. Fali Roowalla, Lugano, Switzerland

Comments: WILL THIS BE POSSIBLE WITH A NET COVERING SUN RAYS? ------------------------------------------------------------ "THE SUN IS THE MOST POWERFUL PURIFIER, holy Zarathushtra! Indeed, when an Aryan dies, his lifeless body may be put down in a place large enough. It may be placed there either two nights or three nights or a month long, uptil the time of spring when the snow melts and the plants grow. Then the Mazdayasni Aryan MUST EXPOSE THAT BODY TO THE SUN. If the body is not exposed to the sun in a period of one year, then the Mazdayasni is guilty of an action similar to tormenting a righteous person. "I then make THE SUN SHINE TO PURIFY THE DEAD, I make the water fall from the clouds to wash away the bones to the sea which purifies. Heated by the action of the sun, the water then rises from the sea; rising in the sky till it forms these thunderous clouds! They rain down on My command to give rise to crops and food for mankind, to nourish the thirsty earth. Thus is the cycle complete. ________________________________________ Source TZML page onThe Zoroastrian Dakhma-nashini mode of disposal of the dead

Comments: Misuse of funds over such things must be strictly prohibited. We believe in disposing the dead body at the earliest and the books of religion dont mention that this should be done using vultures only. In today's times there are better options and more effective ones like the electronic cremation. I strongly support new effective means rather than spending huge amounts on old ineffective methods. The money may better be used for the sick and needy instead of breeding vultures to eat the dead (not sure how many vultures would live there amongst high rise skyscrapers of Mumbai). Better to spend on a person when alive for a better life rather than spend to plan his disposal after death.

Comments: A V ery I mpractically irrational A genda for R eviving Y ielding-less VULTURES Someone with time and resources to spare should move BHC for a stay on this utopian Aviary Project that is a downright scam by hairbrained self-serving BPP Trustees. There are sufficient grounds for legal relief as it goes against the original Trust Deed and is nothing short of a fraud against rightful beneficiaries intended by philanthropic settlors, apart from being fraught with many angled dangers for our community, at a future date.

Comments: Abstain from how many drugs. It is not just Diclofenac that FPJ misdleads the community to believe. As per report appearing in Indian Express in August this year, many other drugs have similar outcome as diclofenac. I quote what appeared in Indian Express. The new study shows that another veterinary painkiller, aceclofenac, is as dangerous because it breaks down in animals into diclofenac.’ Asad Rehmani of BNHS. ‘Ketoprofen, another drug, has been proved to be unsafe and aceclofenac need not be tested as the study proves it’s deadly for vultures, experts should focus on other molecules that are still a grey area. I also belive that parsee women who marry outside the community - their children should be allowed to adopt the zoarastrian faith without cause or hinderence. I also believe that the leaders of our community namely the BPP, are living in a time warp and are neandethral in their outlook, namely bigoted, xenophobic, intolerant, and power hungry and veering on the corrupt.

Comments: NO BLOCKING OF KHURSHED NIGARSHINI IS PERMITTED. THE WHOLE SUGGESTION OF AVIARY WITH NET COVER IS DOWNRIRGHT IRRELIGIOUS. THE TRUST DEED CLEARLY PROVIDES FOR USE OF THE PLACE FOR DISPOSAL OF DEAD BY KHURSHED NIGARSHINI AND VULTURES WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPLEMENTAL. BLOCKING OF SUN RAYS IS NOT PERMISSIBLE. SO STARTING EVEN A SATELLITE AVIARY AT KEMP’S CORNER IS AGAINST THE PROVISIONS OF TRUST DEED AND THIS IS THE OPINION OF A VERY EMINENT LAWYER WHOSE OPINION HAS BEEN OBTAINED.
