Name: Byram Sidhwa on Oct 29, 2012Comments: The only thing certain about this experiment is its uncertainty. Instead, the money should be spent for living. Trustees whould ask if they would have embarked on this project, if the funds were from their own sources. Alternatively, they should indemnify the community and the BPP Trust if there is a loss due to fiasco.Flag

Wonder why we have such a fascination for the dead, then for giving a better living to the tiny community members who are alive ??Bizarre really!!!Flag

The opportunists should rather charter a plane under the chairmanship of BPP chairman, to La Vegas go to a casino, and try their luck at roulette, poker, blackjack, where the odds are far better to make some dough. Please stop this loot of the community's funds for massaging personal egos, and diehard mentalilty.Flag

For that reason, Charity funds are invested only in avenues like Government Securities or Deposits of scheduled commercial banks and not in Stoch trading. In Aviary there are higher chances of project ending in a fiasco.Flag

Name: Feroze Kanga. on Nov 2, 2012Comments: If every thing was working fine as stated by BPP when the arm of a lady corpse was found scatterred in Godrej Baug complex then why this sudden clamour for Aviary. I fully agree that such birds can never survive on copses of old humans alone and will need supplementary diet. One wonders how many Vulture Aviaries have been set up by Dr. Marker Kabraji and in what way her abilities are superior to those of Jemima Perry Jones . On reading a quote from an E Mail which rightly points out that , if Dr. Kabraji had the experience on this topic, why was she not consulted in 2000-2001? Obtaining consultancy advice from a person who caters to your own predilections is not in the overall interest of the Parsi community.Flag

When the patient is unconscious or semi conscious how can he ask the hospital authorities not to treat him with Diclofenac containing drug. So ultimately diclofenac drug will be consumed unknowingly. This will lead to end of this endangered species of birds.Flag

Name: Zarir N Panthaky on Nov 2, 2012Comments: Proposing an aviary is a good initiative for environmental sustainance, however not at Doongarwadi which is surrounded on all sides by Urban Jungle. Also such initiatives are for NGOs who are sustained by monied sponsors, it should not be indertaken by a charity trust whose funds are dwindling. I fail to understand the reason for squandering money on the dead while many living Parsees beg their bread. Please spend the money on rehabilation of old colony buildings so that the recent case of collapse and subsequent painful death of a lady can be avoided in the future. Also funds can be fruitfully utilized for education and making new dwewllings for parsees.Flag

Name: Tehempton Icchaporia on Nov 2, 2012Comments: I do not approve either of online petition or obtaining names and publishing the same in Free Press. Likewise, there would be no Hall or Auditorium large enough to accommodate all Parsees of Mumbai for an Anjuman Meeting. Best course for B.P.P. is have a REFERENDUM poll on the issue. Just obtaining names and signatures for publication in news paper does not signify actual genuine support. In most cases it is done on basis of “sharma sharmi”.. i.e. inability to refuse. And God knows how many have actually understood the issue before nodding their heads.Compared to that, Online support is more authentic (in the sense that it originates from a registered verifiable E Mail address duly cross checked) but then Parsi population consists of majority of those who are not comfortable on Computers so actual support on Online would be less than what it actually would be.Flag

Name: Readymoney on Nov 2, 2012Comments: It seems that in Karachi, the Vultures disappeared in 1956. i.e. much before the drug Diclofenac was even invented. If Karachi based Parsees can manage without Vultures sine 1956, why can Bombay Parsees not follow their example., Letter received from no less a person than the Chairman of the Karachi Parsi Anjuman Mr. Byram Avari in the year 2001 is self explanatory: I have found this on the web. “ I would wish to bring something to your attention which possibly is not known to anybody in India. We have two Dokhmas and have had no vultures since 1956 yet the disposal of the dead works as efficiently with the sun’s rays as with vultures. This has also been recorded by Mary Boyce in her book after her visit to Karachi. We use no chemicals, no herbs, and no powders. It is a standard practice that after a year for the bones to be piled in the central well where they turn to ash like crumble over years and years. At the end of 1990 the well of the main large Dokhma at Karachi was cleaned after nearly 100 years, and the contents were placed in a well close to the Dokhmas, which has been specified on a map, which is kept at the Karachi Parsi Anjuman Trust Fund office. This has also been recorded and a marble plaque has been embedded into the wall of the bunglis at the Dokhma. This well has been prepared as per our Zoroastrian rituals and it is called an “Astodan”. This is as per our rights. You may like to convey this to anybody for interest. With kind regards. Yours sincerely, Byram D. Avari - Chairman Karachi Parsi Anjuman Pak. BYRAM DINSHAW AVARI . So I repeat Diclofenac alone is not the cause of disappearance of Vultures. I support all those who want to give an opportunity to Mr Adi Doctor to run the place for at least one year on lines of Karachi.Flag

Name: Bomi Patell on Nov 2, 2012Comments: Why is it necessary to have a synthetic Net? Is it to cover and obscure the ‘sight’ from residents of Tall buildings? Birds of prey like to soar high, will this not mean cruelty? I am quoting Dr. Vibhu Prakash of BNHS appearing in Mumbai Mirrorhttp://www.mumbaimirror.com/article/158/2009121120091211141914761dfeec39c/%E1%BE%A2Indian-vultures-could-be-extinct%E1%BE%A3-Dr-Vibhu-Prakash.html “Since there are hardly any vultures left and the food is abundant, catching them by spreading a carcass is a major problem. Moreover, since vultures stay on high tops, catching becomes a tough task. We need a professional rock climber for that. Secondly, since vultures fall in the ‘Schedule I’ category of Indian Wildlife Act, getting permissions from the authorities concerned takes a lot of time. Due to all these factors, we are able to catch only one vulture in 15 days, whereas we need to do much more.’ ‘Though the government has given us a good support, it is not good enough to save the species. We are not getting the much-needed financial support from them. Vultures need more attention than what they are getting at the moment. They are indicator species, and if they are dying then there is something wrong in the environment,” he says. ALL THESE ARE QUOTES FROM Dr. Vibhu Prakash(Emphasis on two things. First his remark that "VULTURES STAY ON HIGH TOPS" > So keeping them under a Net is nothing but cruelty. Second, Dr Prakash is candid when he says "We are not getting the much-needed financial support from them." (Government). So a micro minority will supplement efforts of the government. Right??Flag

Name: Perveez Mistry on Nov 3, 2012Comments: Is a method of disposal of dead a religious issue.? If yes then do we have to treat it as a commodity by promoting it in an Advertisement in a national daily? Advertisements are meant for promoting sales. The only conclusion that I can reach is that such SALES PROMOTION in a secular daily implies vested interest and is certainly not meant as zeal or desire to restore a past custom. That happens to be a plain fact. May Ahura Mazda bless us all and protect us from men who want to profit by disturbing religious sentiments. I SUPPORT THIS PETITION IN TOTO.Flag
