I am a transit user, I don't have a car or a ride I have been working in Granville Island for almost 6 years now, I am a single mom trying to make ends meet with a half decent job. I have had to turn about 6 job offers down with benefits because I can't make the scheduled time 7am, so unfortunately I am still an on call as a casual, I applied for a full time job most recently and finally got it 4 days a week, but I might more than likely lose this job because my days are Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon during the week I can make the 7 am shift if I catch the 160 Vancouver at either 5:02 or the 5:32 at the latest however I have a half hour to 45 minute walk to get to the station from where I live. There is a shuttle bus or community bus but that doesn't start until later, I can't afford a taxi nor can I afford to work for free. Even if the bus went by Pinetree and Anson that would help a bit closer to me i live near Lafarge Park area so I don't have to trek as far but the first bus that even goes by that area isn't until 5:52 am to late for me, I'm not very young anymore and I'm on my feet all day I work in a care facility, at the exhuberant prices transit is asking for I should have to kill myself to get to work. The weekend is even worse once again I start at 7am but am late Sat, and Sun first bus leaves at 6:32am Sat always full, Sun 7:02am always full with people heading to work who also need to get into Vancouver earlier but have no choice. I have been off of work for 4 months cause of a collasped lung, I have been on medical EI for 15 weeks is the max unfortunately, still not fully recoverd but have no other choice but to return to work its that or welfare and nobody can survive on 800 a month, I shouldn't have to beg for a decent system mass transit like Toronto, Montreal, ect.....other countries its sad and I'm not the only one who feels this way, not everyone can own a car, drive a car, or get a ride or wants to pay all the high prices that go along with it, or traffic. In closing Translink keeps going on about there lack of funding yet give all the CEO's Bonuses while teacher's and everyone else sits at net zero this fair they don't ride the bus.
