Comments: I grew up going to the Alabama Theater on all day Saturdays. I drive to go there still many memories and a wonderful atmosphere. Not many old places left in this city--- from homes to business-- tear down the trees and put up big brick block houses and shopping centers. They all look alike!

Comments: This is my absolutely favorite bookstore and one I frequent when working down the street. Of all the bookstores, this one has the most character and sets B&N apart from Borders. One of the things I have always loved is the fact the old Bookstop was kept intact. Please leave it as is.

Comments: I love this bookstore, the uniqueness of its décor and atmosphere will be loss if it is moved to a suburban like shopping mall. The charm of montrose is that unlike the rest of the city it has managed to keep certain landmarks like the Alabama theather, it would be a historical and cultural lost if it is not preserved in this manner.

Comments: Houston already has enough against it as appearances go. I would hate to see such a lovely venue become abandoned. Shame on Barnes and Noble and Weingarten for adding more ugliness to the city with their bland, cookie cutter new building. This historic place needs to be preserved!

Comments: Please do not destroy THE most important historic movie house in Houston's history.... THE ALABAMA...has been an intregal part of our history for decades and a landmark / trade mark building for the area....it has always been a symbol of grace and adds character to the part of town it resides in... I would absolutely be devasted if our mayor of the fair city of Houston allows such a TEXAS TREASURE to be horrifically destroyed by creeps that want to make American towns look like garrish football stadium sized ,bland, cookie cutter gutter clutter!!!! How many bloody warehouses do we need for our haute lattes and books many never read? To Mr.Wiengarten....you sir are a murderer of history and you will have to tell your grandchildren one day how you destroyed the movie house that Clark Gable and GONE WITH THE WIND CAST, specially selected to promote the movie and sign autographs..... how you tore down decades of memories of a lifetime.... for some grubby greed money a very rich man like you does not need!!! what a legacy you will leave....you , Mr. Weingarten will be remembered in Houston history as the man that destroyed history... is that what you want? You could be remembered as a great man who had the guts to save the few scarce peices we have left of our Houston,TX history..... Do you really want to be the man who tears down movie paradise for a "parking lot" store? Think about it. Mrs. Lori Sears(married name) Native Houstonian Former performance actress at Alabama Theatre 1979-1981: played "Columbia" Rocky Horror Picture Show theatre stage show troupe.

Comments: The Alabama Theater is a part of Houston history and a wonderful piece of architecture. Please do not destroy this for another piece of urban junk that could be seen on many other corners of Houston. As a child, I attended many movies at the Alabama Theater. Please don't kill one of the last shreds of memories of my childhood for another franchise horror.

Comments: The River Oaks Theater is one of the only places in the entire city that I visit to watch films outside of my home. I made my first trip to the theater back around 1993 and have seen amazing films that were not playing anywhere else in Houston! The midnight film series is another brilliant idea that they now have year round, as opposed to just in the summers in years past. I beg of whoever is in charge to keep the River Oaks Theater up an running for as long as possible.

Comments: Destroying the interior of this historical building would be a great loss to the history of Houston. Vintage theaters across the country are abandoned and knocked down all the time. We have the opportunity to keep a beautiful and functional city landmark around for generations to come. The bookstore occupying the theater shows that the currently facility can be re-purposed without destroying the history and unique beauty of the building. By gutting the theater you will loose the respect of the surrounding community and probably their business. Don't we have enough run-of-the-mill, sterile, modern shopping centers in this city?

Comments: Please so not destroy the interior of the Alabama Theater Bookstop. Too much of this city's history is being destroyed in the name of "progress". So more the pity for us as a community.
