louis d'arcy | bought an 02 mini one for my wife to take to work and pick up the kids from school, now the airbag light is on permanantly and is, of course, a constant source of worry, the dealership are reluctant to say wether this is something that we have to pay for to be replaced or not! totally absurd as far as i can make out, if there has been a product re-call in the US then why isn't that automatically the situation here in the UK? I refuse to pay for this manufacturers fault and suggest that we should have a strong case at the European Court of Human Rights! if this doesn't get sorted out we should boycott BMW and Mini.

If you can help me please let me know
Thank“s |

Andrew Porter | I have just had this fault occur on my 2002 mini one two days after a new instrument cluster was fitted due to a comprehensive failure! That cost over £500......the week before I had the failed power steering pump fixed which is another common problem on these cars which was another £500! Yet to go back to the dealers with this new fault coz im going to go bankrupt....I love my mini but feel that UK owners get a raw deal from BMW on what seem to be common and potentially dangerous faults on their vehicles. VOSA should be aware of these problems and recalls should be issued on all common faults and repaired at the dealers expense. My car may have 97000 miles on the clock but i have never heard of a car with so many problems as these models!
Nick Henderson | My Airbag warning light has just come on and reading articles about the recall in the USA why have BMW not done the same over here? As for the 10 year warranty/150,000 miles why was this not also issued to UK Mini's?
Paul Wright | Airbag light on, yet another car that suffers from this problem! Disappointed no feedback from a major car manufacturer. NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Glen Proles | Please sort out the electrical problems with the new Mini or you are likely to loose a loyal customer base
Stephen Parkin-Morse | apparently i have just joined the airbag warning light coming on club..........Im not happy BMW, where is my 10 year warranty. My cooper S was purchased from north oxford mini
trish French | Airbag warning light been replaced 4 times under warranty, it went again after and was told i would have to pay. Shocking when it is such a common fault. TRISH FRENCH, Dealer was cooper garages Boldon
Dr Roger Norman | Airbag light on = No airbags = Death or serious injury in high speed collision
| 174 | Tom | Code 5 Front Left Side Airbag.
Passenger Seat unused! |
Ray Ede | AirBag light on once again. This if the 5th time now. I have decided to give up and not even worry about the airbags. BMW obviously do not have the technical knowhow to fix this problem or they see it as an extra revenue earner.

Anonymous | I own a 51 plate Mini Cooper, which I bought from a non-Mini dealership. I am the third owner. Two days after buying the car, the airbag light came on. My warranty did not cover it. My airbag lights is still on 7 months later and a recent diagnostic test came up with the error '05 left airbag front fault.' Not sure what this is going to cost, but the test itself was expensive enough. I am far from alone from what I have heard.

Anonymous | I bought a 51 plate Cooper from a non-Mini Dealership. I am the third owner, but the car has only done 25k miles. The light came on just two days after purchasing the car and I wasn't covered by the warranty taken with the car. I have just had the diagnostic test done by a friend with his own business (£20). and it came up with an '05 left airbag front' fault. Seems all the Minis on this forum are all 51,02 or '52.
Anonymous | i purchased my mini cooper privately but it originaly was purchased from the Bowker Blackburn deaership
Anonymous | Bought from Sytners Coventry, maintained by Sytners Leicester.

Chris Clare | Not just thecommon Airbag light problem but also the common headlight levelling problem (slamming the bonnet shut is not a permanent fix).

David Carroll | This issue needs sorting asap.
A Chan | Bought a used 51 Mini Cooper. Warning light came on and stayed on twice in less than 12 moths since purchase. Dealer (used Mini specialists but not main dealer) reapirde free of charge first time but charged the second time. Exokained issues with moving seats. Rang Mini UK today - said light can come on if people are " heavy handed" with seats!!!
Philip Coyle | Air bag warning light on soon after I bought it (second hand) since hearing that it is a common fault and usa customers had this safety issue recalled. I am furious that BMW uk are not honouring their uk customers and recalling all uk cars before something happens.
Dave Robinson | Car bought privately 3 yrs ago but now on 3rd fault
Anonymous | Had this problem 5 times had wiring under the seats hard-wired but problem reoccures, local garage resets the light for £5. One can buy a tool from Gunsons to do it yourself (costs £197) or a Draper tool, which I believe is substatially cheaper.
Anonymous | origional dealer was John Carke Dundee, nearest now Phoenix Kirkaldy,
Anonymous | I've had a 03 MINI One since new, I have recently had to have an Air Bag Control Unit fitted since the dash AB fault light came on, dealer said the ABCU was dead it cost approx. £350 to replace. ABCU had signal going in non coming out. Went Along with this for safety sake. This was about 5 mths ago just discovered this petition. Good work.
Anonymous | Yep, its just happened to me too !
Chris Clare | Airbag warning light needs resetting / fixing. Why do i have to pay?
david | I want to write an article about this problem. Would all those who have had quotes from BMW to fix the fault please contact me at david_wrottesley@dennis.co.uk
Simon Byrne | My light has just come on in a 52 cooper S
| 200 | Matt Scruby | Brought 02 mini cooper from main dealer air bag light came on with in 3 months of buying the car got that fixed no cost then it happend again again they done it this time under there good will and now funny enough its on again been quoted £80.00 to find the fault on the machine then £160.00 to fix it.
As like most people i dont have this sort of money to spend on a light as im sure it will come on again and that will cost me even more money |
