Jeremy WellsHad this problem twice now. Repaired once by BMW in exeter and now again by Cooper In Maidstone. Interesting that even third party warrenty companies wont cover this anymore......!

Ellin SteinThis problem arose in my 2001 Mini Cooper. I had the extended warranty which expired about nine months ago. It cost me £66.00 to get it fixed.
Ellin SteinI had this fault with my 2001 Mini Cooper. My 5-year extended warranty expired seven months ago so dealer wouldn't repair at no cost. I got wiring fault repaired elsewhere for £66, but after reading these posts I think I may have to see if the safety system is functioning, which will mean more expense.

wayne griffithsbought my 'mini cherished' 52 plate cooper from rhydale cardiff almost 2 years ago and to the present date the light has come on 3 times !!! oh and also my girlfriends 51 plate 'one' currently has the light on : )

Amanda WalkerThe Airbag Warning Light is permanently on in my Mini. It is only through research on the internet that I have found out it is a common fault. I think it is outrageous that one should have to pay for a diagnostic test, then pay to have the fault fixed when this is a known fault. What incredibly bad service! It is absolutely imperative that we stand up for our rights and for what is fair and right.
JULIA CONWAYNot only is my airbag warning light on AGAIN (about the 7th time in 12 months) now the gear box is playing up,another documented fault once past 25,000 miles. Mini offering to pay 80% of the cost as a "goodwill gesture" obviously not accepting blame. The cost to me? £900!!!!!. Unfortunately they are bigger than me and I can't fight it. I am getting the job done elsewhere much cheaper, then the MINI is going........wouldn't touch another one with a bargepole....MINI take your money then run. BE WARNED!!!!!!!
Julie AlcockOwn a mini one 52 reg airbag warning light has now come on 4 times in 16 months. Managed to get it fixed by BMW 3 times with no charge, now its on again not looking forward to contacting them. When fixed again will seriously consider getting rid of it. Did not realise this was a common fault on them untill I found this website.

Matthew BiasAirbag warning light will not come off after being in the dealership numerous times not fixed they could not tell me if the airbags will deploy. BMW Honolulu
Gertjanhave yhe same probs, i life in holland
Scott WakefieldThis fault has occurred 3 times now on my wife's Mini and I am fed up with paying inflated dealer repair costs for what is patently a design fault with the car. This fault is being rectified FOC overseas and so I cannot understand why the poor UK customer base should be picking up the tab!
Philip Whitereally annoying, wish the light would go away!

JennyMy light has been on since i bought my 2nd hand mini. I only had a 29 day warranty and went on holiday for 14 of those days. Took it back when I returned and was told they needed a code. As the garage is 80 miles away I never made it back before the warranty ran out. As all US models were re-called I think BMW should fix this FOC!

Lee BrownI am getting SOOOOOOO sick of this happening.....And all the dealer does is just rip you off each time!
Andrew Morinlight came on too pricey to fix also dangerous!
Justin FarrJust passed the mot drove out and the light is on, probably from shaking the seat, moving it back and fore. Phoned mini and they said it was coincidence, well their not going to admit their car won't stand up to an mot are they? I decided to look into options before I book it in, the thing is the warranty ran out on my R52 a few days ago. Argggghhhhh!
Justin FarrLight just came on as soon as the car just passed m.o.t. Garage said don't know what could have caused it. When phoned mini, they didn't say much said it was nothing to do with mot just coincidence and asked when do I want to book it in. Its only just gone out of warranty buy a few days an R52 cooper s. I asked how much, he said can't say until we take a look. I said I would get back as I didn't want to pay loads when it may be something simple. After reading all the post on the mini2 forums I'm shocked, especially that the warranty regarding airbag light in the US has been extended to ten years. Its a worry to say the least that this can go wrong so often, I've read 5 times for some. This is a major safety issue and should have been resolved by now surely

Andrew McNairJust had the light come on after moving the seat. Didn't know this was a common fault and I can't believe it hasn't been recalled as it DISABLES THE AIRBAG SYSTEMS for a known problem! AMc
Al AdkinsI had this light come on at the dealership the first time. They repaired the problem. 1000 miles from the end of the bumper to bumper warranty the light went off again. I wasn't able to contact them till just after the car went out of warranty. Dealership indicated nothing they could do under warranty Same with problem with steering column issues. Even when reminded I complained about problem before warranty ran out.

JoI have a 2001 Mini Cooper which I bought through a mini specialist in November 2005. In April 2006 the air bag warning light came on. I took it to a BMW dealer who advised it required a new repair cable for the seat belt tensioner and airbag cables to both front seats which cost about £250. Within weeks the light was on again so they reset the computer at no charge. Over the next six months this problem reoccurred several times but they would not undertake a diagnostic test without charging me. By now I really didn't trust or want to pay BMW for anything so I took my car to a local reputable garage, and the diagnostic test found four fault codes to bad connections. They corrected these and the labour charge came to around £200. The light has come on twice more always after a seat has been moved and they have again looked at the car at no extra cost. I have now discovered by looking on the internet that mini's have been recalled in the US for safety reasons because of this issue. I contacted the BMW dealer who said they would have the car in for diagnostic tests for which I would be charged and they would probably hardwire the connections to resolve the problem. Having already paid them approximately £250 to have new tensioners and god knows what else fitted I am appalled that BMW are aware of this safety issue and yet have done nothing other than apparently fleece me and possibly hundreds of others and I am still left with an unsafe car. I will take my Mini to the local garage to have the airbag connections hardwired and once this problem is solved I will sell my Mini and NEVER buy a BMW again. Meanwhile I have advised friends and family that if I am in an accident and my airbag fails that they are to advise my solicitor to pursue BMW.
Sharon MillerWarning light on, booked in at garage and not looking forward to the bill.

Lisa RoachMy Mini is a 51 plate and this problem has now occured for a third time - i yet again will have to pay for a diagnostic check with BMW and a repair which will cost in the region of £120. This is not something i expected to pay on a quarterly basis for this vehicle - i am very disappointed!

Nobby ClarkI have had the airbag warning light on in my Mini for over 5 years. BMW were supposed to fix it under warranty but never bothered to contact me. Now they want to charge me to rectify the problem.
Neil FraserMy september 2002 Cooper S warning light came on more than ten times and usually was after a passenger got in the back by moving the front passenger (n/s) seat forward. Once after the dealer had the car for 2 days to repair the fault, it had come back within 4 miles of driving from the dealership.

Karen FernyhoughMy Airbag warning light came on in December last year and i paid to get it fixed. Ten months later and the airbag light is on again. I feel it's very wrong that i have to pay again to get it fixed. The fault should be repaired free of charge.

Linsey Carnegiei got my car second hand from another dealer, and the light came on after 15 miles, i took it to a garage, he couldnt fix it, then BMW noticed it when i got my private plates put on. they told me to come back but they were going to charge me a fortune, so i have left it. hope this petition gets it sorted because the car was expensive enough!!!
