christine johnson | Please help these children and others in a similar position. Blue badges are treated like a lottery. Some people, who can walk but have a health condition are awarded a blue badge. Every member of the public knows of at least one person who has a blue badge, but can walk . So why are children being penalised in this way. As MP's you are in a position to represent the general public. Please voice the public's concern over this matter.
Emma | My daughter is 5 1/2 months old with DDH is her right hip. She has been in a Pavlik Harness for 12 weeks which has been unsuccesful. She will have her hip operated on 2nd July 2008 and be fitted with a hip spica.
Tracey Aubury | My daughter is due a hip spica operation next month and basically we will not be able to go out as a family with our 3 1/2 year old due to the problems of getting her in and out of the car due to the size of the spaces thus making the whole family near on house bound for the next few months
Clare Davies | The law as it stands is discriminatory against children in Mia and Jessica's position and it is an outrage that immediate changes have not been put into effect on either a local or national level to alleviate these parents' suffering. I await changes later in 2007 and will be watching with interest.....
Helen Thomas | My daughter Carys Ann Bibby was born April 2006 she has a life limiting heart condition on oxygen 24hrs a day has a trachiostomy needing excessive suctioning during the day and has Charge syndrome which means she wont walk till she is at least 4yrs and due to abnormal inner ear has extremely poor balance and still struggles to hold her head up and has delayed development. All her medication and fluids go through a gastrostomy and a jejunostomy. This means not only does she have to be carried everywhere but wherever we go we have to have an oxygen cylinder attached , an oxygen saturation and heart monitor, a suction machine, a large bag with bagging rescusitation kit, emergency trachy kit, suction cathethers, syringes and gastro extentions, her pushchair to carry it all to which i cant fit it all on and if going somewhere for a prolonged period her special chair made for supporting her spine, head etc. All of the above has nothing to do with carys age and it would be non different if she was 10months or 4yrs all the equipment and the fact her ability is not the same as a normal child is due to her illness and placing age restrictions on blue badges, drop curbs disabled parking spaces and motability vehicles as well as the mobility component of DLA is Age discrimination every case should be treated individually with documentation from the health professionals who look after that child and know what struggles the family truly have to go through so those who really need it get it. Things have got to change it has only been 14 months of struggle whereas some parents have been suffering in silence for years. I will back anyone who wants to take it further and change the legislation that was written with such niavity in the first place.
Linsey McDonald | My friend's son has been in a spica and I have seen how difficult it has been for her to get help, even as far as getting an appropriate car seat for him and pushchair. She should not be discriminated against because of her son's age. They need all the help they can get. Looking after a child without any disability is hard enough and looking after a child with a hip spica just makes it so much harder.

Emma Bruty | My 11 week old daughter is due to have her first surgery in 3 weeks and will be placed into casts. I also have a boisterous 2 1/2 year old and my mind boggles when I try to think how we will manage with transportation in the coming months. It is imperative that families of children with hip dysplasia are given every help possible to endeavour to lead as normal a life as possible.
belinda copeland | my 8 month old daughter Lyla is to have the cast on next month, this site has been so helpful, thank you xo

Anonymous | I fully support this campaign

Aidan Lynch | I live in Ireland where disabled parking permits are issued through the Irish Wheelchair Association Mobility Section. An application form has to be signed by both a Medical consultant/patients GP AND a member of the local police force, to whom the applicant is known. As my daughters legal guardian, I can apply for the permit.....anyway 10 year olds are not allowed to legally drive.....yet. The pass is issued in the childs name , and can only be used if the person for whom the pass is issued is in the vehicle. If the pass is abused it can be withdrawn and not re-issued. I'm not too sure what it might take to get the mighty Uk civil service to change its policy. I've found it a futile exercise complaining to people who have been promoted into positions of responsibility, through no fault of their own, and who do not understand that "Rules and Regulations" are there for the guidance of wise men/women, and the blind obedience of fools. Would there be a loophole in Disability Law that would allow the GB Wheelchair Assoc. to take over the scheme ? Our daughter Amy has had much of her recent cardiac surgery in Southampton and we have just returned from a week long holiday trip having freely used our Irish issued/EU recognised permit, without any problems. Is there EU legislation which can be used to force change ? Best of luck with the campaign. I spent some time in hospital with Helen Thomas and am appalled that given the so so serious nature of Carys's condition that she should have the slighest bother in obtaining a pass. Shame on whosoever is responsible.

gemma neile | My daughter has hemi on her left side she is now 5 yrs old As a mother deaing with a child who has walking difficulties its a struggle to do normal things in life and i also had to fight for everything so life could be as normal as possible.I think as a country we need to look at our system that should be there for our children insted of trying to help others.

Anthea Welch | My daughter is 7 months old and undergone 3 months treatment for DH. Hopefully the condition is now treated but I fully understand and support this petition for others that are still undergoing treatment. They deserve all the help that they can be afforded.
Jeanette Woodward |
| 2083 | Diane Doyle | The whole Blue Badge system is open to abuse.
Badges should be renewable every year with the picture of the holder on the front of the badge.
I'm sick and tired of seeing them kept by families of the disabled person afer they have died and getting use out of them for 3 years.
The badges needed to be looked aT CAREFULLY AS THERE IS A MARKET VALUE OF £300 for stolen badges.
We could stop this next year and only benefit the most people it was intended to help - whatever their age. |
Ashlee Poulin | My daughter Ashlynn (21mo) is going on her 3rd surgery and 3rd spica cast. Handling of a child in a spica cast is very difficult. It is not our childrens fault that this has happned, we didnt choose this and the more help and support that we can get, the easier it will be for our children.

Anonymous | My daughter has sever hypermobility in her lower extremities and cannot walk for longer than 10 mins at a time she however does not recieve the higher rate mobility andis not entitled to a blue badge as they have no name for her condition. However I know exactly how frustrating it can be to park and have large equipment for the child to use but no space to sort it all out.

Katherine Heavyside | The Blue Badge is a valuable resource for families that need them and should be available to everyone, regardless of their age if they have a disability.
Rose Abu-Najmeh | The rules need to be flexible and look at each case individually.
Mr Jeremy D Findlay | Hip Dysplasia and related medical conditions should be added to the Blue Badge Scheme.

Anonymous | My daughter is currently in a pavlik harness and if she has to have a cast afterwards I know it would be tricky getting her in and out of the car, at the end of the day it is a disability and should be made easier to cope with. It would give us parents one less thing to contend with when going out in a car!
belinda copeland | good work girls x
dawn rimmer | Jamie was born in 2006 with VACTERL Association this means in breif that his stomach was mot connented to his throat, he had not bottom, he had a hole in his heart, an extra set of ribs, a badly deformed clubbed right hand and his spine has discs missing and also his spinal cord is longer than normal and tethered at the end, as you can imagine he has many problems mainly that he is anally incontinant, has trouble eating and can't walk for long distances. A Blue card would be a realy life saver. He is due to in for surgery on his spine hopefully at the end of the year this may leve him paralised for good.
Viki Jones | My daughter was born with displaced hips and due to go in to the spica cast on 26/10/07. I have enquired for a blue badge for when she goes into the cast, but because its not a permanent disability they will not issue me one. I think its diabolical!! They will not do anything but, when I have to park in a double parking bay as parent and baby spaces are sparse, they’ll be quick on the mark to give me a ticket!
