We, Blackthorns Residents have signed and submitted a hard copy petition to MSDC on 2 June 2008.All 62 residential households completed the petition and unaminously rejected the developers excessive proposals for a 60 bed,4 storey replacement of the care home. We appeal to all parents, staff, governors and other community users of the school,to join our petition to limit the size of the needed care home replacement to a more reasonable 2 storey size.A 2 storey building on the hillside, as presently exists, will be more in-keeping with the character of the neighbourhood and be better integrated into the local environment. Increased surface water run-off from the currently proposed large development may also cause downstream flooding problems, as has happened in the past in Blackthorns.A flood risk assessment study(PPS25) is requested to be carried-out,in consultation with the Environment Agency, before planning approval consent is given to any development on the site. Existng traffic problems will be exacerbated and childrens, parents and residents safety put at increased risk by site over development,as currently proposed . We are concerned that extra traffic to the site, during building demolition, construction and facility operation will cause massive disruption to residents and to the school. MSDC officers have recommended to the Central Area Planning Committee council members, that permission be given to the current application ref.07/03040/FUL.The meeting to consider this application is at MSDC offices,Oaklands Road,Haywards Heath on Thursday,12 June 2008. Please join us and sign our petition, on or before 11/06/08,to reject the developers current proposals for the care home site.
