Name: Shann Hashimoto on Jul 9, 2009Comments: I support this petition. Here is a brief history on how "Black Pot" beach park received itʻs name. My grandfather Henry Kalani Tai Hook (deceased) known to most, known to us as "Grandpa Kalani" once upon a time cooked mass quantities of food in a large "black wok/pot". While socializing with family, friends & newcomers- if you were hungry you never had to worry, as heʻd give an open invitation for you to enjoy & savor the delicious hot meal simmering in the "black wok/pot". Today, "Grandpa Kalaniʻs children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and the many kama`aina & malihini continue to utilize the park. Black Pot beach park has multi-uses, therefore the expansion & acquisition of this prime piece of real estate should not be passed upon. This may forever be beneficial to the many generations & visitors that enjoy the "grandeur" of Hanalei Bay and that of "Black Pot" beach park.Flag

Name: Tony Miller on Jul 10, 2009Comments: The Black Pot Beach Park expansion is a shovel-ready project. The state of Hawai`i voted overwhelmingly in favor of President Obama, whose vision and popular agenda promotes community-building by funding projects like this one. Residents of Kaua`i unite around jobs and land preservation; this project provides for both. I have special memories of learning to surf 3 years ago at Black Pot Beach. My petition to you reflects a personal vision for Kaua`i shared by many. KPLT and the County have put together a visionary project. Please release the monies to make this project possible.Flag

I understand your concerns given the drop in revenue, but this opportunity will only be possible while the market is down, as the owner can sell it easily in better times, which would be a tragic loss.Flag
