Comments: Women should have the right to birth whether it be in a hospital, birthing center or at home. I'm not sure why the AMA and ACOG are so concerned with less than 1% of the population of women who choose an out of hospital birth anyway.

Comments: It is a woman's choice where she births her baby! Women have been birthing babies at home for CENTURIES, and it's appalling that you are now trying to take away that right. We have choices. It is our right as Americans to have that freedom.

Comments: Please do not take away the mother's basic right to make choices that are right for their own family. This is a country of freedom, which our soldiers are fighting so hard to protect. We must remain free to choose the healthcare practitioner that is best for us, as mothers and as families. Please STOP the AMA and ACOG from taking over childbirth. Goverment mandated hospital birth will only result in higher health-care costs, unnecessary medical interventions, and the loss of reproductive freedom.

Comments: It is my right to give birth at home. Physicians can not make me go to the hospital forced to deal with unnecessary interventions and risk having an unnecessary c-section. It is my human right! And I should be able to choose a CPM to be at my house. If they make it illegal for CPM's to attend home births and hard for CNM's to attend home births, then women will be forced to have babies at home all alone with no care providers. Is that really a safe route to go The physicians CAN NOT force us to birth in the hospital!

Comments: This decree from the AMA and ACOG is an attempt by our patriarchal society to dictate women's actions to them rather than acknowledging our capability to make our own decisions, especially with respect to our bodily integrity. It's an insult and degradation that such policy is being dictated by men who will never understand what it is to give birth. Their position is based on feelings, not facts. There is no scientific evidence to support the AMA and ACOG's stance against homebirth and a wealth of evidence to support that a midwifery model of care is safer and more cost effective than the "active management" currently utilized by physicians in hospitals. Furthermore, all industrialized nations which support a midwifery model of care, including the UK, have better birth outcomes than the US, including lower rates of intervention, infant mortality and are more cost effective than our broken system. In fact, these nations are choosing to expand women's access to homebirth, not restrict it, because their policies are based on fact, not finances. Ultimately, as the women who are giving birth, it is our body and our right to choose where to give birth, not to have that choice dictated to us "for our own good".

Comments: We had two amazing, beautiful and SAFE home births. It was the most natural and empowering experiences of my life. I wouldn't want it any other way. Our midwives were more than competent, and trusted me to birth the way it is supposed to happen, without intervention or trauma.
