Knowing that there was NOT going to be any interventions (labor induction, drugs, etc) and that my baby was going to come out whenever he was ready to, made me very comfortable and relax. My midwife was great and provided me with insight and guidance that helped me made the most out of my labor experience. I will definitely do it again, no doubts.Flag

If I choose to birth my baby at home and this is what I choose and it makes me happy then what right does anyone have to take that away from me? Any law restricting or outlawing homebirth is a breach of any women and childs fundamental rights as citizens. My unborn child does not belong to the state, so what right does the state have to choose how that child comes into the world?Flag

Name: Tricia Runningen on Dec 16, 2010Comments: If the United States of America is based on personal freedoms, where is that more important that the choice to do as one wishes with their own body? Homebirths are safe not only anicdotally, but also statistically. I would like to see more regulation of cesearean sections being grossly over-used in our county, making childbirth in a hospital setting a danger to women who are not informed. The American Medical Association sees maternity as a cash cow, sure way to keep money coming into clinics and hospitals. The threat of hombirths is not to women and babies, but the over-charging of those who only want to have children. This should not be something only the weathly can afford!Flag

Name: Natalie Madueno on Feb 22, 2011Comments: my first birth was in the hospital and i was told that i could go in with a specific birth plan for myself. Well I found out pretty quickly that, that wasn't the case. I had to tell my nurse 3 times i didn't want any demoral (or however you spell it) and she said oh it will just take the edge away. so me being very young (18) and in pain finally give in. well not only does it take the pain away but i start laughing hysterically for a few minutes and crying. 13 hours in i feel i have a perfectly fine system going for myself.. i get a contraction i breath through it... i sit back and nap for a couple minutes and do it again.. i was progressing steadily. so my nurse decides that at 8 and half centimeters dilated 100% effaced that i need and epidural. this is her 4th time telling me i need it. again being young and in pain i give in. i feel guilty and a little mad at myself but i husband reassures me and tell me he's there for me and amazed at what i've done so far. my dilating slows way down so then they give me pittosin. i'm still in labor for another 3 hours. when its time to start pushing i have to give the nurse a practice push so they can make sure i can do this without a c section and i can. my son had his first stool inside me and i now know that they could have got his head out, suctioned and then pulled the rest of him out but thats not what happened. my doctor got impatient and decided to cut me instead and caused me an unececary month of pain. i could barely pee for a week and it was almost a week and a half before a actually fully pooped. i ended watching The Business of Being Born and was amazed at how it practically described my birthing experience. it really opened my eyes and i decided that if i were to get pregnant again i was gonna do it at home. here i am pregnant with my second child and i can't wait to give birth at home. only thing is its not totally legal here in georgia as it was in california. i'm happy i have found a midwife but i still have to be established with and OBGYN and luckily enough i have one that loves to be backup for midwives.Flag
